Kiki Archer wins the universal appeal award (again) with her latest book, A Fairy Tale of Possibilities.

In her ability to give all women, lesbian or not, a fictional set of circumstances, conflicts and confusions that we can ALL relate to, Kiki Archer is like Jane Austen for Moderns. A Fairytale of Possibilities is the sweetest, most insightful and hottest laugh-out-loud romcom book of the year.

The great classic thing about an Archer book is you never know if youre gonna want a petit four or a petit mort after you finish reading. Her books are that sweet and that sexy. Kiki Archers comedic timing has always been wonderful, but she exceeded her highest score with this one. The hilarity is organic. Archers got it wrapped up in a tight, taut plotline, some excellent character development and sight gags and dialog to bring it all alive.

The secondary characters, as well as Laurens work side-kick Trudy, who is Laurens own mini me but relentlessly so, add to the full measure of a fully fleshed out storyline.

I loved how the two main characters could move from mad frivolity to grand concepts in between commas! A story, basically, of how one lesbian, in love with her straight best friend for 11 years, owns the lesbian rico suave award with corny one-liners, double entendres and foo paux all night long. The women feed off one another, comically at first, and then and then, they take us to new versions of old ideas while infusing the air with endearing, old-timey values in a modern-day love. Lauren is 100% lesbian, and Rachel is Straight. And has a child. And the in-laws of her deceased husband to deal with.

But falling in love with a Straight woman is its own special subculture of experiences, for both people, and its refreshing to see the idiocy, the intelligence and the insight coming from both people. Neither woman can get out of her own way, except when she runs headlong into the other ones calamitous, touching, hilarious, sensitive persona. And yet, its not the one you might think who makes the first definitive move. And yet, yes it is! Archers so on point with each characters inner and outer perspectives.

But who are they really? Thats what makes this book so lovely. The two women are remarkably alike in their dissimilarities, and unnervingly dissimilar in how they reveal their mutual admiration society. It almost shouldnt work. Insecurity, jealousy and cumbersome misunderstandings are matched by moments of such exquisite tenderness and touching exchange that you want them to end up together because their imperfections are a perfect match. Even under stressmaybe especially under stress.

Not going to do a spoiler, nope, but let me simply say that if you like your passion strong, your sex rompy, and your couple capable of both orgasmic intensity and rompy pompy pratfalls of ungodly and hysterically bad timing, get yourself this Fairytale of Possibilities. Highly Recommend for a good time!

I enjoyed reading this book!
Assuming you read the synopsis, I’ll skip a summary and mention likes and dislikes:

Liked:
– the two main characters were delightfully funny and had an amazing connection. I love the little details that the author added to indicate how close these best friends are.
– the humor was entertaining. There were many shockingly funny parts and some of the side characters added quite a lot to the plot.

Dislikes:
– the brother-in-law was annoying and seemed a little unrealistic in some qualities.
– some of the “coincidence” moments were eye-rolling. The timing of certain situations was not believable and took away from the effect that these moments were supposed to have.
– the dialogue was for the most part brilliant, but every now and then there would be a silly comment that wasn’t funny but felt like a stretch for a laugh.

The dislikes seems pretty long, which is why I only rated 4 stars, but honestly, those details were incredibly tiny, nit-picky things that didn’t stand out too much in the overall substance of the story. I hope they don’t deter you from reading an otherwise lovely novel from a very funny and imaginative author!

Audiobook A Fairytale of Possibilities by Kiki Archer

Lauren and Rachel have been friends for what seems like forever. Rachel is straight so of course, Lauren has pining away for her for eleven years. Even though Lauren is quite the player, her heart belongs to Rachel. Rachel is single, her husband dying in a freak accident while the three of them were out hiking together. Rachel cops to wondering why Lauren never made a play for her and decides she is curious, but Lauren is afraid to ruin a friendship in the attempt at taking it to the next level.

The best part of this novel is the dialogue between Rachel and Lauren. It is witty, sharp and proof positive that these two women are perfect for each other. I liked how each character had characteristics that set them apart enough to really wonder if they could be compatible in a romantic setting.

My only problem with it was that is seems far fetched that over 11 years, Rachel never said anything to Lauren about her bi curiosity, but suddenly becomes confident that she wants Lauren. That just seemed a little off to me.

As a whole, it is a great read. Lauren’s assistant is an entertaining character all on her own and Rachel’s son and his relationship with Lauren is precious. I don’t understand the “bad” reviews, but to each her own.

Audio A Fairytale of Possibilities narrated by Ella Lynch

Kiki Archer did it again! Another rollicking romance that has you laughing out loud and cheering on the protagonists! The twists and turns this story takes keep you off balance and eager to turn each page wondering what will happen next. I think we all may be able to relate to this too. I know I was in love with my best friend from the moment I met her. I scared my dogs and cats with my outbursts of laughing while reading this in bed at night. I had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep. You will thoroughly enjoy this. If this might be your first Kiki Archer book, after reading I am sure you will go to the bookstore or Amazon and quickly buy her complete works. She is that brilliant in her writing. Her characters are fully fleshed out, witty, funny, lovable, sexy and relatable. Her plots are hilarious they suck you in and make you feel like these characters are your best friends. You will fall in love with Lauren and Rachel and their journey. You will fall in love with Kiki!

WARNING: In the event you dont want to receive strange bewildering looks from fellow travellers on the London underground, I suggest you dont read this book in public. If you dont care about what others think of you… read the book… and laugh out loud!

The design of the cover sums up this story beautifully – a light hearted, fun romance to pass a sunny Saturday afternoon with a glass or two of wine!

The scenes covering Nandos (I will never ever be able to think of the Great British Bake-off again without thinking of Trevor and his bulge); Sally the Shetland ponys owner conversation and the safari park will stay in memory forever. The safari park is probably up there with the Ikea outing with Meg and Honey in Kiki Archers last book Lost in the Starlight, in terms of making me chuckle.

All the characters in this book are believable and ordinary (with probably the exception of Trevor!). It’s their ‘ordinariness’ which is so appealing, along with Kiki Archer’s ability to draw the reader into a world that is both engaging and welcoming. Who after reading this story wouldnt want Lauren, Rachel, Trudy and even Jenny as friends?

The cover price is the cost of a posh coffee! Buy it today.
