Four down, twenty-one Alex Cross novels to go. Cat and Mouse is easily the best one of the series so far. A lot can happen in twenty-one books. See why.

The Ugly: I have mentioned the fact that I dont like the constant jumping between first and third person views. I like it even less when there are two characters who give first person views. Thats what happened here. Not only did we get the point of view of Cross, we also got the point of view of one Thomas Pierce. It was pointless. Sure, Alex needed to be taken out of the story for a bit, but we didnt need the frontal view of Pierce.

The Bad: Im not one to frown upon a sex scene in a book or movie. I dont mind them as much as other people, whether they are warranted or unwarranted doesnt matter. But here, I dont know what it was. Im thinking its the fact that Christians husband just died six months before this book came out and Cross was indirectly involved in his death. It just seemed unethical on Crosss part, and unrealistic on Christians part. I know if I lost someone it would definitely take me more than six months to get over that person. And the only reason this is in the bad is because I know that people are built differently. It just bothers me is all.

The Good: One thing that hurt the other books was the case loads in the book for Cross. It was like he was working three to four different cases in one book. Here, he was working one case until it was time to move on to the next case. I dont mind the multi-case aspect, but make it believable at least. This one was believable. And it made the book all that much better.

Final Thoughts: I cant say start with this book. I cant even say dont read the other books in the series. There are some that are standalone books like Jack and Jill, but this isnt. It is part of the series that is a continuation to an end. But I would suggest reading it whether you read the other books or not.

Cat and Mouse audiobook in series Alex Cross

I’ve been reading mystery and crime books since I was little so I have experience. Almost all of the time I know who the killer is just after a few pages. This book however, got me glued to it page after page for two days. I just couldn’t stop reading!

The first killer we already knew: Gary Soneji, the cruel serial killer who had escaped from prison on the first book.

The second one, however, was a clever plot twist and turned out to be someone I wasn’t really expecting.

When we finally get to the last page … more suspense.

Alex + pls wait for me. I am buying your next novel now 🙂

Cat and Mouse audiobook by James Patterson

I was very sad after Michael Connelly let Harry Bosch get old – I felt LA needed Harry double of what Michael gave us. I visited Sigma Force friends, and others and desparately in need of more Harry. Always went back to missing Harry. Thought Harry needed a wife and happy to balance and reward his hard detective life before he rode off into the sunset.

Then I met Alex. Harry’s brother from another mother. Thank you, James! It’s only book 4 and Alex is on his fourth chic. Hope nothing happens to Christine… Great book. Great author. Great writing. Great story-telling.

Cat and Mouse audio narrated by Taye Diggs

This is my favorite book in the series so far next to Along Came a Spider. Gary Soneji is back and better than ever. I read through these pages so fast. I couldn’t put it down and of course the ending was mind blowing. Highly recommend you read this. Although Patterson says you can read any of his books without the previous books in the series, I highly recommend reading all of them in order.

One of the most talented authors of our time! My older sister, my niece & my cousin have been fans for years! I’m retired & have the time to curl up with a good book & escape! Bought my first eBook by James Patterson & haven’t stopped buying & reading the Cross series. When I want a change from Alex Cross, I will begin The Women’s Murder Club series. Thank you Mr. Patterson for a magnificent ride! I only wish I had started sooner.
