I started reading this with high hopes. NPR called it a summer romance read. I call it painful. The premise is okay. Clara is broke, couch surfing, while cleaning out storage lockers. She comes across some damning information about a celebrity, and that’s where things go wrong for me in this book.

Clara is much too often sort of Jekyll and Hyde in her emotional response, as is Cas, the hero. Neither feel very ‘connected’ and the dark moment never truly comes. Nothing really happens except for the same argument again and again. He hates her, she then hates him, and he hates her again. And yep, you guessed it, she hates him one more time. On and on until I hated them both.

Summer Heaccock’s second novel, CRASHING THE A-LIST, put the comedy in rom-com. There were moments so cringe worthy funny, I had second hand embarrassment and has to take a step back and do some breathing exercises. You’ll root for Clara as she gets sucked into fake dating, and you’ll cheer her ability to get back up again every time she falls. And she has amazing taste in best friends. Be prepared to laugh out loud.

Audiobook Crashing the A-List by Summer Heacock

I loved the writing style. So much. A solid page turner from beginning til end. A Waiting for Tom Hanks meets The Unhoneymooners kind of story that’s full of clever, witty banter — seriously so much hilarious dialogue that made me LOL. I would totally reread this!

Audio Crashing the A-List narrated by Stacey Glemboski

I understand that this is supposed to be a “light rom-com” summer read, but the characters were not developed (or likeable) and the plot was beyond implausible (as in, why are these people worked up about being thrown in jail when it would never happen). I felt no particular connection to either Clara or Caspian.

This book was hilarious! It was laugh out loud funny and charming all the way through, with lovable, unexpected characters. The pacing never sagged and a fairly simple premise created conflict with several twists all the way through. Caspian was a dream. At times, I wished CiCi had a bit of her own life instead of being at the beck and call of her friend all the time, but I really enjoyed their friendship.

A perfect comic relief read for fans of a memorable love story!
