Legend of the Death Race: Conquering Life with Courage, Power, & Wisdom

As someone who has competed in the Death Race with Tony Matesi, he does a fantastic job recounting his journey through potentially the greatest era of this signature event. His story is his own, but his experiences before and after the race are relatable among this esteemed and oddball group of competitors, many of which I remain friends with today. Writing in first person, the author takes us on his heroes journey to conquer physical and mental obstacles to attain a statistically improbable goal, finishing one of the hardest endurance events in the world. Preparing mentally and physically for Death Race and then competing in it is unique and once experienced, you too will have learned how to lower the volume of short term drama and distractions in life and focus on the long term priorities of accomplishment. Tonys autobiography of this journey and recounting of Death Race events is a must read for anyone seeking to understand their own Why of attempting something meaningful in life, whatever that is, despite everyone around them thinking they are crazy or telling them to quit. Additionally, invest in the audio version of this book. The author narrates himself and the words jump off the page filled with his emotion. Its like catching up with an old friend telling a fantastic tale.

For those in the community and done any amount of research into extreme endurance racing, this is a story that reflects everything you\’d go through. For those wanting to know what drives someone to do these events it\’s a great insight. It\’s an look into the pysche of a founder of the Spartan Endurance branch of racing. A story of redemption, struggle, and getting past personal demons. Where life long friendships are born from shared suffering, life lessons are found in the trials and tribulations of the Death Race, and on the other side you find out what kind of person you really are. I lived all this and can confirm it\’s truthfulness. If your reading the book and are confused about something, go figure it out and make your informed decision. Just like in the Death Race and life, don\’t trust everything at face value or what someone says… Trust but verify.

Just finished @The Legend of The Death Race by Tony Matesi I love this book and it is just what I needed in order to help break my recent addiction to movie and video clip watching/time wasting while being in quarantine. The story telling was great and made me feel the victories and defeats from my own Death Race experience. While I dont currently have the itch to @Spartan Death Race right now, it did take me back to why I got interested in obstacle course and endurance racing in the first place. It also exposed a few truths on why I have been so frustrated with myself lately. So Im starting back on my own death race journey and taking control as the author of my own legend!

Tonys book is the authoritative look at the Death Race. When I began to prepare for the 2018 Death Race, I turned to Tonys blog for help. This book expands on what he wrote online and goes into a lot more detail. Specifically, he explores what it takes mentally to succeed in one of the worlds toughest events.

Raw, real and true. Death Race is no small feat its a fight against your own demons. Tony does a great job of describing what it took to overcome his demons and ultimately crush the Death Race.
