Mr. Malcolm’s List

I\’m honestly surprised at all of the rave reviews here. Is it terrible? No. The original idea was actually fine. But it\’s so shallow it impossible to really like. First, the H basically falls in love with the h because she is… Beautiful. And then because she apparently ticks off stuff on his list. There\’s really no actual connection between the two leads, and the ending proves it. SPOILERS Basically he thinks that she is trying to entrap him into marriage at the end and she gets mad and he has the grovel etc etc. But it\’s ridiculously done. The H is so shallow, doesnt even communicate, and this is someone he supposedly loves. Also, the h\’s friend is more a caricature of a person and only exists to further the plot. And of course, magically the second lead guy magically falls for her in the span of a couple pages with 0 character development and all evidence pointing to the fact that she\’s a lunatic??? END SPOILER The h for her part is better but her attraction for the hero can be summed up with \”omg he\’s hot\”. What else did she even see in him when she complains about his list blah blah blah. It\’s a good idea, this book but poorly executed with characters that needed actually dimension beyond 2d cardboard

Mr. Malcolm is an eligible bachelor who has a specific list of qualifications he requires when choosing his bride. He meets his match as he finds a young lady who has all the qualities he desires. All is not smooth because of another scheming young lady who did not meet Malcolms specifications and who makes several attempts to shame him, using the object of his affections. Reminds me a bit of the work written by the late Georgette Heyer, whose stories were void of lovemaking scenes and were driven by the romantic events that ensued throughout the text.

I was not impressed by Mr. Malcolms List. There is no insight into why the male character fell so fast for the female character, after rejecting every other girl in London. This 180 needed to be fleshed out. Theres just no intrigue in any of the romance. The book left me feeling flat.

This was so much fun to read! It is a super short romance I picked up because I saw it was going to be a movie and it is all over my instagram. I had to see what the hoopla was all about and I am so glad I did! Mr. Malcomn is a man with a lot of money and no self esteem if I\’m being honest. He wants a woman who loves him for him and not what he can afford. So he sets out to find a woman convinced they won\’t love him for him by a list he writes of qualities he demands. In comes Selena who he believes fits this list perfectly but it all goes sideways with her horrid friend who I say the book could do without but it is what it is. I loved the hero and heroines meeting and the cute lines about keeping away from bodies of water made me laugh a lot. I enjoyed this so much it took till the end for me to realize there was no smut in this book! It is really worth the read!

I loved this book! It was such a fun, cute read. I really enjoyed Selina\’s character and her spunkiness. She was also quite the picture of a lady, so the balance of spiritedness and femininity was a delight. Mr. Malcolm made me want to laugh, roll my eyes, and shake him all at once. He\’s very swoony, but he makes some typical hero mistakes. It\’s a quick read and I finished it in less than a day. Perfect for someone looking for a quick diversion to reality or a historical rom-com. The writing is beautiful and reminds me of Jane Austen with a modern twist. I hear there is going to be a movie, so I\’m excited to see the story on the big screen someday.
