I found this to be one of the better novels in this series. Other than AN OFFER FROM A GENTLEMAN (Benedict’s story), I thought these novels were formulaic and trite. In the Agents of the Crown series, the dialogue and banter were witty and fun. Most of the books in this Bridgerton series were plodding and overwrought; besides being awash in family tea scenes. TO SIR PHILLIP WITH LOVE is an exception however. That was as well written as this novel; but the series of eight can be tedious to read through, so be forewarned, Reader.

Gregory is the Bridgerton brother who believes in true love and the magic of love. Other reviewers have commented that his belief in spontaneous love at first sight is naive and not credible. His interest in Hermione is a case in point. He does respond to Lucy when he meets her; but she is not the lovely, winsome lass that Hermione is. No one could predict what man Hermione would ultimately choose for a husband. Lucy is so traditional and so lackluster a character at first that no one could be surprised that she would marry to save her family and not hold out for a love match. I agree that more scintillating repartee between Gregory and Lucy would have been helpful. He had more animated conversations with his Mother and sister, Hyacinth. I, for one, was relieved that he took the initiative in seducing Lucy and trying to upend her wedding ceremony as the vows were spoken. There is no question that once Gregory realizes he is in love that his character blossoms and is animated. Lucy does not ever reach that point where her love for Gregory is all-consuming. She fares better in the two epilogues than she does in the plot.

The series merits a 3 ranking in my estimation with the best three earning a 4 each. If this is all one has to read on a plane flight, it is entertaining; but not Julia Quinn’s best effort.

A smash bang ending for the Bridgertons! This book is like a nice, smooth car ride and then all the sudden gets pushed into overdrive and your speeding down the highway at 100mph.

The first half is good. It’s enjoyable, I didn’t get bored or annoyed. But the second half is really exciting! Once Gregory realizes that he’s in love with her, he becomes COMMITTED. And then a wrench is thrown into their love plans! How’s its going to work out, is really a head scratcher! But of course, it all does 🙂

There’s only one sex scene. It’s not super detailed.

Now I can’t wait for the Bridgerton Netflix series to come out!

Audiobook On the Way to the Wedding (Bridgertons #8) by Julia Quinn

I have loved the Bridgerton series, and this is actually my second times reading the books in order, the first time was well before the Netflix series. The crazy thing is, I do not remember seeing this book, and it is hard to believe that I could have forgotten some of the details in this book. Of all of the books, this was my least favorite by far. Had it been the first book in the series, I doubt would have read the others.

Audio On the Way to the Wedding (Bridgertons #8) narrated by Rosalyn Landor

Well, this finishes off my 2020 and as you can see its not my favorite… I do love Gregory Bridgerton but I felt as if Quinn was out of character stories to separate all the siblings and his story really suffered for it. Lucy was great, dont get me wrong. She was probably my third favorite heroine in this series after Kate and Penelope. The story really just suffered from the beginning with Gregory being in love with some one else and then the whole middle part wasnt good. I was happy with the ending and someone else having all them children but it couldnt be saved by that point. Im glad though I finished all the books and got to see all the siblings happily married and in love!

I really like this series, but this book was such a disappointment. I couldn’t really care about the main characters, and especially disliked how the “hero” keeps trying to pressure the “heroine” into doing something she feels is dishonorable – so totally not ok. And yes, I put the quotation marks on purpose because I don’t think either qualified for those titled – they are just disposable main characters. I couldn’t make myself do more than skin to finish the book, because I kept hoping it would improve enough to draw me back in, but it didn’t. If you feel like you have to read it, get this one from the library – don’t waste your money on it.
