What a nice summer read and a great distraction from all the turmoil in the U,S. right now. I needed a break from all of the anxiety Associated with COVID-19 and this book is just what the doctor ordered.
Cute story of Daniel, an undercover techie with the feds and Samiya an IT genius who works for a tech company. She and two other women meet when they realize their boyfriend is cheating on all three of them and they partner up and create the Boyfriend Project, they will swear off men for 6 months while they work on themselves and their own passions in life. For Samia, its developing a friendship app. But, then she meets Daniel who is undercover at her agency and as much as they try to resist (and they do for 2/3 of the book), you just cant fight off these intense attractions, whats meant to be will be.

I liked the fact that Daniel was biracial, I liked the fact that Samiya was so smart and I thought the author did a good job describing how hard it is for women of color to be in STEM fields, something Daniel didnt always get. Loved their chemistry and I was on pins and needles waiting to see if Daniel was going to have to betray Samiya for the job.

Great couple, glad they got to their HEA and hope Taylor and London get their own books.

I have BOTM and bookstagram for continuing to plug this book in my feed until I wised up and bought my own copy. And it was one of the best decisions Ive made.

I really enjoyed the book. It had all the makings of a really good contemporary romance with a little bit of mystery and action. Samiah was the perfect lead. She is a brilliant computer engineer who is dominating in a predominantly white male field. I was completely in awe of her persona and the confidence she exuded in profession and personal life. She was a force not to be reckoned with because she worked hard in every aspect of her life. If there was a character I would strive to be, it would be Samiah.

The friendship between these women is truly remarkable. I loved watching them be there for each other, stand up for each other, and encourage each other in every aspect of their life. They met over crap circumstances and could have easily dismissed eachother off, but instead they took control over their situation and made something beautiful from it.

The way the author wrote this was effortlessly good. She had you entertained and laughing, but also your heart was invested in this story, rooting for these characters’ own personal triumphs. The multitude of the depth of these characters was inspiring. It was so refreshing to see a woman who was a computer engineer and excelled in her field rather than a stereotypical occupation. Its rare to find diversity in occupation in romance books and I applause the author for thinking outside the box with this. I also appreciate that the author dove into the complexities of what it is like for not only a woman, but a woman of color to have a prestigious position and the intricacies and demands that position would entail.

One of the reasons I prefer first person perspective over third person is because you get a closer connection with each character. I love being able to read inner thoughts or feel exactly how the character is feeling because they describe it in their own words. This book is unique because though it was written in third person, I got all the amazing feelings as if it was written in first person. The author was able to convey the exact feels and thoughts without the disconnect that is often associated with a third person narrative.

I really enjoyed this book and Im so excited to see what is next for this author and fingered cross this is a series where Taylor and London each get a book. Now if you will excuse me while I go find a job that has weekly competitions that lead to massage and strawberry and kiwi smoothies or ice cream lunches.

Audiobook The Boyfriend Project (The Boyfriend Project #1) by Farrah Rochon

. . . , – .

Things I loved about this romance:

Our heroine, Samiah Brooks, is smart, funny, invested in her own future but also intent on helping others.
Our hero, Daniel Collins, is smart, funny, capable and caring.
Their love story is modern, unique, believable, and so very well told.
Besides the romance there is also the exploration of positive female friendships and how important they can be to overall happiness.
Samiah is a Black female in a STEM career and the challenge she faced growing up interested in this field, pursuing this field, and succeeding in this field is fully presented and inspiring.
The steam level was just right and condom use is explicitly stated (this is always a big deal to me).

Things I didnt like about this romance:
Nothing.

Audio The Boyfriend Project (The Boyfriend Project #1) narrated by Je Nie Fleming

Samiah has just had a lucky escape from a guy who liked to have more than one girlfriend at a time, unfortunately this was caught on camera and went viral. Samiah along with London and Taylor create a friendship out of this and in turn create a pact. That they would focus on themselves before any more boyfriends.
I really enjoyed this romance novel, I liked that Samiah had a high flying job in tech, the book touches on the difficulty Samiah faces within this role and getting to where she has.
I liked the characters and the friendships and it had me laughing as well as cringing.
Danny the undercover detective that comes on the scene was lovely too and I liked the way he acted with Samiah.
There wasn’t and overload of steam in this one, but I would still highly recommend it and I shall be buying the next one in the series when it is out.

A fun book with a great story line and main characters that you actually like. Hopefully this is the first of three books and we’ll get Taylor’s and London’s story next.
