Gabriel Mathias, a chef we had the pleasure of meeting in THE SEXY ONE. He finally opened his restaurant. Ten yeasr ago he had a love affair with a beautiful woman. Now that say woman has walked back into his, the only problem is that he didn’t recognize her (or didn’t he!?).
Penelope “Penny” Jones , ran the Little Friends dog shelter where Wyatt (WELL HUNG) and Nick (BIG O) volunteered. She was organizing a charity event and the only restaurant available was Gabriel’s.
The man who gave her a earthshattering three nights of passion and didn’t seem to remember her. She had to work with the man but being so close to him wasn’t easy, Penny wasn’t about to let Gabriel know the effect he had on her.
Gabriel had a sense of dj vu when he first meet Penny yet he wondered if she was the same woman he met years ago why didn’t she acknowledge him. He couldn’t stop thinking about the Summer they spend in Spain..
Working with Penny was a challenge Gabriel was willing to face. Getting Penny to give him the time of day was his new goal. He made her a proposal she couldn’t resist.
When all the pieces fell into place, Gabriel realized that Penny was indeed his Penelope from years ago. Now that he’dfound her again, he wasn’t about to let her go. And Penny wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
It was great to see how well Gabriel hit it off with Penny’s two best-friends, Delaney and Nicole but the one person that sealed the deal was her baby dog Shortcake. Penny and Gabriel were in a happy place until the former’s past tried to walk back into her life.
It would have been easier to walk away from their new found reconnection and though Gabriel was hurt, he understood that Penny had a past. He did what he had to do to make sure they had the future they both wanted.
THE ONLY ONE is a novella by Lauren Blakely. It was captivating, engrossing and oh so sexy. Gabriel has to be Lauren Blakely’s most romantic hero til date. I was glued to this book like krazy glue ;). 5++++

The Only One – a One Love Novella by Lauren Blakely.
What a deliciously decadent story about two characters we’ve met previously and who I was hoping so hard would get stories of their own! And they did! With each other, no less!
Penny runs Little Friends, an animal rescue, and is looking for a new chef to handle the Picnic in The Park fundraiser after her last one pulled out. The person she’s meeting as her final choice bears the same name as the man who she feel in love with and then stood her up years ago.
Gabriel has earned himself a few titles: ‘the sexiest chef’ and a ‘heartbreaker in the kitchen’ but to name a few. When he meets with Penny, he can’t reconcile that it’s the same Penny from years ago and when she denies that they’ve met previously, he decides to leave the past in the past.
While I was somewhat disappointed to realize that this would ‘only’ be a novella, Blakely gives us such a perfect story, packing all the romance, heat, and banter that are her signature traits, that you forget that it’s not a full-length novel and embrace the ride for the gorgeous second-chance story that it is. Gabriel and Penny are fantastic together and the feelings they had between them never really faded in that time and it was wonderful being part of their journey back to each other. Oh and the dirty talk and delayed gratification certainly didn’t hurt!
I adored this book and characters and while it is about characters you meet in previous books, it’s a part of Blakely’s One Love series of dual POV standalones that’s been published under the 1001 Dark Nights umbrella. Go on, read this. You won’t be disappointed.

Audiobook The Only One (One Love #2) by Lauren Blakely
This is a second story in One love series but can be read a a standalone 🙂 to be honest, this can be said about a lot of Lauren Blakely’s books… because even though certain characters appear in quite a few of them… as friends or family members of the main characters, each story work as a standalone as well, because every time we get enough informations to enjoy it 🙂 the same can be said about this novella 🙂 we met both Gabriel and Penny in Lauren’s other stories, and that definitely made me more curious to see their happy ending… since this is not a full lenght novel, I’m gonna keep my review short and sweet so as not to spoil you anything 🙂 so let’s jump into all the good stuff straight away 🙂
Penny and Gabriel met about ten years ago, when they were both young and innocent… they shared a short but very sweet romance in…I wanna say Spain…? but don’t quote me on that, cause I forgot to write down that little detail and now I’m not sure… 🙂 they were supposed to meet soon after in the United States, but Gabriel never showed up… fast forward to now, when their paths crossed again… he’s now a famous chef and one of the last ones available to cater the fund raising picnic Penny organizes… 🙂 they meet again and that’s all I can say about what happens next 🙂 this story is too short for me to say anything else 🙂 instead I will tell you to go and read this lovely novella 🙂 I’m usually not a fan of those second chance romances… I don’t like that trope in books, mainly because of my own personal experiences and preferences, but here.. it was done really well 🙂 I actually enjoyed seeing how Gabriel fought his way back into Penny’s heart… how they fell for each other again… would I like to read more about them and for their journey back together to be a bit longer? yes 🙂 but only cause that’s my reaction every time I fall in love with a couple 🙂 this was a short but absolutely lovely story and I highly recommend it 🙂 especially if you need something fun to brighten your mood and don’t have a lot of time 🙂 this novella has an entertaining and hilarious writing style, swoonworthy main couple and lovable secondary characters 🙂 definitely pick this gem up 🙂 since it really doesn’t matter if you’ve read Lauren Blakely’s other stories or if it will be your very first one, there are no excuses to not read it… 🙂

An epic story packed into a beautiful novella.
Listened on Audible
Lauren weaved all her usual storytelling magic you get in a novel in this novella. Plenty of time to develop a connection to the main characters and get drawn into the second chance love storyline. Why things didn’t happen the first time round with Gabriel and Penny, what will happen this time round?
What I love about Lauren’s novella’s are that they are never rushed, they are planned out and the endings are well executed.
Both narrators did an excellent job, two of my favourites here.
