I accidentally forgot to post my review for this book after I read it. I finished it 3 days before I’m currently writing this review. I never would have guessed who the murderer is in this book. That doesn’t happen to me this completely very often. The author continues to show her experience in television and with movie knowledge and I just love it. I am pleasantly reminded of movies and TV shows that I hadn’t thought about in a long time as this series progresses. I won’t bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. I appreciate that this book has chapter demarcations. Chapter demarcations make it so much easier to see how close you are to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when you need to do so. If you liked the previous books in this series, I say you should give this one a shot because I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Have at it!

I liked this book. It kept jumping suspects, which I did figure out right before Jane said why the person should be a suspect. Of course it was just the gut feeling of suspicion. But it was fun.
The Kindle version is written pretty well. I didn’t find too many errors in the typing, unlike some other books I’ve purchased. There is also a table of contents, so if you want to make a note for each chapter about the main idea, go for it.
This entire series is very good. I really like the way Ms. Levine writes the main character. You can’t go wrong with a “Jaine Austen” gal, who happens to be a writer. But it’s more than that. Yes, she does write the story the way a normal author does. But there’s times when Jaine is ‘talking’ to the reader, kind of like Ferris Bueller did in the movie. They way she lies about her food problems is hilarious. And don’t get me started on the cat issue!
Ms. Levine does a very good job bringing her main character to life, so that the reader can believe, get lost in, even interact with Jaine. I think this series is unique because of the main character actions that show up, and anyone who likes a cozy should give this a try.

Review #3

Audiobook The PMS Murder (A Jaine Austen Mystery #5) by Laura Levine

This is the first book in the Jaine Austen series I have read. I did read the Candy Cane Murder short story collection and her short story.

Laura Levine’s writing is very funny and her characters are quite believable. I enjoyed reading about the seniors at the senior center. That was very believable. Anyone who has had a friend or a loved one living in a senior home has probably heard similar tales.

I imagined Andrew Ferguson as looking like the sensible bank employee in the Bank of Scotland commercials. Prozac the cat is the typical spoiled feline.

I liked how she planted little clues to let you believe one character had done it. The actual killer was a total surprise.

I think I will read more in this series. It was fairly entertaining and occasionally extremely funny.

Audio The PMS Murder (A Jaine Austen Mystery #5) narrated by Brittany Pressley

So far the Jaine Austin series is a hoot. This 5th in the series is the best yet. I laughed and laughed all the way through. I am not a cat person and don’t care about Prozac, however Jaine is a riot.

love this series. I marked ‘no violence or sexual content’ bc there is SO very little. not none, but very very little. it is not vulgar or graphic by any means. this is just a very cute, very short read. it is always a fun time w this book series and the mysteries are always really fun and surprising as well. I love trying to figure it out, and rarely do (and im usually quite good at figuring out murder mysteries! 🙂 ) love jane.
