Cormoran Strike is a private detective who is visiting his family in Cornwall. He is approached there by a lady who was seeking desperate help to find Margot Bamborough, her mother. It was the year 1974 when Margot went missing under extremely mysterious circumstances.
The strike had no prior experience of tacking any cold case and this time, it was a 40 years old case. Despite having very few chances of success, he is quite motivated and took on the challenge. The case was added to his very long list of active cases that he was working on along with Robin Ellacott, who was his partner in the agency.
Robin on her part was also dealing with a messy divorce and also with the uncalled for male attention. On top of that, she was also dealing with her emotional feelings that were developed for Strike.
Just as the duo started the investigation of the disappearance of Margot, they were confronted with a very complex case. It included a psychopathic serial killer, tarot cards, and untrustworthy witnesses.
You will love the plot of this novel and you will, even more, love the company of the exciting characters that this story has. The ingenuity and insights of the author are quite amazing as well, which you would relish to the fullest.
