#WalkTowardsTheRisingSun: \”From Child Soldier to Ambassador of Peace\” is a riveting new memoir by Ger Duany with Garen Thomas. Beautiful People, The book \”Walk Towards The Rising Sun\” details the journey of a young boy in Sudan as the country undergoes a civil war. Later South Sudan gained its independence. We learn about the culture of the Nur people and travel with Ger from herding cattle, tribal disputes and becoming a child soldier to refugee camps in Ethiopia and relocation to the United States as a teenager. But that is only part of his story. In the United States he is confronted with discrimination and racism. Though shy, Ger finds his rhythm on the basketball court and was given an opportunity to attend college. He has struggled, been in the right place at the right time to experience life that has been challenging, horrific and miraculous. I\’ve been blessed to know Ger Duany for many years and I am so happy with this memoir that serves as a healing balm for him and a Shocking Education for Us! He has emerged as an actor, model, physical trainer and humanitarian, etc. He is South Sudanese; after many years he became an American Citizen and also a Peace Ambassador, which has given him the opportunity to grow even more on a path of integrity. He views the conflict in South Sudan with a broken heart, is dedicated to his Family, many of who have been killed. And yet he is hopeful for the budding new nation of South Sudan. He believes that Good Change Is Possible there, in the United States and throughout the World. Even In These Uncertain Times, I Am Holding This Vision of Hope Too. #WalkTowardsTheRisingSun is appropriate for Teenagers and Adults. I Highly Recommend this book to All and encourage educators to use it as a classroom tool to help students expand their Worldview. Always, Melony ? aka Miss Mellie Rainbow ? #GerDuany #UnitedNations #UNHCRAmbassador #NewBooks #YoungAdultBooks #PenguinRandomHouseBooks #SouthSudan

Audiobook Walk Toward the Rising Sun: From Child Soldier to Ambassador of Peace by Garen Thomas Ger Duany

5 stars! This book is a must read. It is a real story of a child soldier and now a man making a positive difference to the world — an ambassador of peace. The book takes you to Ger\’s life journey of growing in a world that has equally devastating challenges on the battlefield and in modern cities. Where faith takes you, what you do about it, is decisive on what you become. It took courage, wisdom, and faith for Ger to overcome many challenges and start helping others. When you think all the odds are against you, dodge the bullets and remember Ger\’s story and carry on to the next chapter of your life. Ger\’s story is an inspiration for peacebuilders and for everyone else. I recommend it to students, professors, peace practitioners, and everyone else.

This is a story of a child soldier, Sudanese Lost Boy, model, basketball player, actor, author. Given the life challenges before him, Ger Duany set out to America. After risky behavior in his early years, he ultimately becomes a true Ambassador of Peace. Read it, Listen to it, reflect on it. It\’s worth your time. In fairness, I personally know Ger. He played basketball with my sons. But I am not biased in saying this is a worthy read!
