I really love this series, but Im starting to have an issue with the no romance thing. Based off of how shes been writing, there is a slight tension romantically between Zylas & Robin – and I also understand you want to slowly build on it ( relationship and trust wise ) but its getting so old now, I really just want one kiss scene. All weve had our slightly flirtatious scenes. Im not even asking for anything sexual, just a damn peck. Guess Ill have to wait and see if it ever happens…

While I like the other series with the guild and Tori this series is proving to be a bit difficult to enjoy. The main character of Robin is a bit much. I understand shy and awkward and being afraid, however she is just a bit too extreme in these emotions. Also, as a book nerd she shouldn\’t come off as someone who doesn\’t know or understand the world she is dealing with like the character Tori. Robin should not come off as a complete newbie, only in the practical applications. Here\’s to hoping that Robin will have more of a voice and be able to vocalize more in the next book because it is no fun to always read about a character who comes off as a complete moron.

Audiobook Slaying Monsters for the Feeble by Annette Marie
I think this was wonderful. I loved the juxtaposition of how a scene would reveal something about Robin\’s or Zylas\’s or Tori\’s or Zora\’s characters versus when you got to see inside Robin\’s head, or a little inside Zylas\’s. The tension and floundering between Robin and Zylas is about right, too. They don\’t know each other well enough at this point for any romantical things and feelings to occur without those things and feelings being tainted by the suspicion between Robin and Zylas. The suspicion is believable and realistic in my opinion. Consider their backgrounds! Don\’t want to wait to find out what happens next, either.

So yes I have to admit I\’m officially addicted to this adjacent and ongoing spin-off to the Guild Codex series. It\’s simply amazing how seamlessly the author intertwines all the characters in the guilds but keeps the stories on their separate paths until they\’re not. Already I feel anxious as I have to wait 2 months for the next Guild Codex, book 6, to come out in January and then book 3 of the Demonized series coming out in April. I\’m not sure how I\’m going to handle the long wait before I get more of Robin and Zylas. As I stated I\’m so addicted it isn\’t funny. If you haven\’t yet checked out these series listed above I suggest you don\’t wait any longer to join in the fun and excitement that you have been missing. These books are liken to Lays potato chips…you can\’t just stop at one. Enjoy!

Book two in Robin and Zylas story in the Guild Codex world, has Robin searching for her mothers grimoire, and facing off against some new enemies Argh! Robin is so annoying! This is one of those books where I wanted to read it while peeking through my fingers, because its always what next? And honestly? Robin is a rather useless person, as Zylas keeps telling her. Shes not quite too stupid to live, her survival instincts are pretty good, but her very protected childhood has left her completely unprepared for the Magica world, and that is in fact something addressed in this book. It doesnt help that she is also quite young, a sheltered twenty year old with no real family support; shes flailing in the sea of life, and failing at it a lot. But then, thats part of what makes the series so good. We are all used to the ballsy heroines, with gifts or confidence (just look at Tori from the sister series to this one), and Robin defies these stereotypes. Shes not particularly powerful, her knowledge is lacking, and her confidence is non existent. There is some level of growth though. Robin openly acknowledges her shortcomings, and makes some baby steps towards improving them. By the end of the book, she has actually made some great strides in the right direction, though she can still be a little annoying, and has a long way to go. Its a well written universe, with excellent world building and interesting characters. Robin is, as I have said, an unusual heroine, Zylas is equally unusual as the hero. The misunderstandings and cultural differences between them make for an intriguing subplot that adds plenty of depth to the characters. There are some crossover portions with the Spellbound series, and a mention of our favourite Druid (from the Crystal Druid series) though he doesnt appear in the book, I highly recommend reading this series alongside the other guild codex world series in the authors recommended reading order. This is an enjoyable urban fantasy series, well worth reading if you enjoy the genre.
