The subject novel is the 12th installment in the Legend of Drizzt novel series. The audio performance of Victor Bevine in this novel is quite captivating. His ability to differentiate different characters with his voice makes the entire experience furthermore enjoyable.

Spending even a minute in the torture chambers of the Abyss would send shivers down the spine. The experience would be big enough to melt down the heartiest soul. Just imagine that the barbarian Wulfgar was in those torture chambers for several years. He was received as a very changed man after his return. That change of Wulfgar is not for the better. But, the road to redemption for Wulfgar is the one on which he should travel all on his own. He has to do it even if it takes him to the bottle.
The book has a lot of melodrama and not as entertaining as the other novels from Salvatore with Drizzt dominating them completely. However, this is said from the high standards set by the author in this Legend of Drizzt novel series. Overall, it is a fantastic novel.
This is an apt book for all the fans of the Wulfgar. Many of the followers of this novel picked this book mainly for the character of Drizzt. However, he is nowhere to be seen at least till the halfway mark. But, when he makes the entry then you will realize that the wait was worth it.
