Beautifully Broken Spirit

If you\’re an ugly-cry reader then batten down the hatches, board up the windows and buy out your local warehouse store\’s supply of facial tissues. I rarely cry over books, just as I rarely cry over events in real life, but this one, gah! I think it must be the perfect storm for me. A cute kid who stole my heart, lifelong friends who finally see what\’s been right in front of them all along, and strong, symbolic bonds between humans and animals. Im not sure which is more devastatingly beautiful, the romance between best friends, Tuck and Jensen, or the romance between Jensen and her mustangs, all of them damaged or broken in some way. And Jensen desperately needs some enchantment in her life, something to bring back the spark of life in her eyes and the joy of everyday blessings in her heart, because misguided guilt is eating her alive. Her family went through a terrifying ordeal not long ago and Jensen feels responsible. It\’s all she can do to fake her way through each day and battle her nightmares alone in the dark. The only thing that centers Jensen is spending time with her beloved mustangs, when she can find the energy to visit them. Everyone in her family is concerned about her, but none more than her best friend, Tuck. Tuck and his father have always had their issues, and thanks to the Cole family\’s acceptance and love, it was easier for young Tuck to spend his free time on their ranch rather than his family\’s. Jensen and her brother grew up alongside Tucker, with Walker and Tuck inseparable in their mischief and the younger Jensen trailing behind. The friendship has always been effortless between Jensen and Tuck, and she says: We always accepted each other just as we were. No pretense or pressure. When we were together, we could just be. They show each other their authentic selves and know the other better than they know themselves. Dont tell Jensen and Tuck, but that looks a lot like love to me. For a writer with so few books under her belt, each one of them is rich, deep and captivating, eliciting a vast array of emotions from the reader. You dont simply read a Cowles book. You live it and breathe it, immersed and ensnared in a world you never want to leave. This book is no different, and Jensen and Tuck\’s story hits all the right notes humor, angst, bitterness, desperation, drama, suspense, yearning, longing, desire, and most of all, love of a lifetime. Then there\’s the beautiful, stunning symbolism of Tuck\’s touches and Jensen\’s rescues that reached to the deepest part of my soul. Parts of me that will never be the same. My secret wish is that this talented, gifted wizard of words has a long, illustrious career ahead of her because I can\’t imagine a world without her writing. If you haven\’t yet had a chance to read her work, this book is a terrific one to introduce you to her. These books all stand alone and can be read in any order, or if you prefer, you can start at the beginning. However you choose to read them, dont delay in getting your hands on this series. Once you visit, you\’ll never want to leave Sutter Lake!

Jensen and Tuck are the focus of this third book in the Sutter Lake series and while all of them have been emotional reads for me, theres something about Jensen that truly struck a chord with me. I dont know if its the fact that shes a single mother struggling to give her son the best life possible while at the same time trying to resolve issues within her heart and mind that no one in her life would even give a second thought to. Tuck is her brother Walkers best friend and has been in her life since they were kids. Theres been an attraction there, but Jensen has never allowed herself to go there with Tuck because she doesnt feel she deserves him. But oh how wrong she is! I loved this story with every fiber of my being. Theres angst and drama and suspense and with each page I read, my heart hurt more and more for Jensen. I just so wanted her to catch a break and it didnt seem like it would happen. Especially when a man in her past suddenly shows up in Sutter Lake. Add to this the mystery of whats happening to the wild Mustangs that truly are one of the reasons she lives and breathes and its a story that just may not have a happy ending. Tuck is a man that doesnt give up easily and its one of his best qualities because its what drives his love for this beautiful woman and her son. I loved his persistence and how he wouldnt let her give up on herself. He saw inside her even when she didnt want to admit it. Their pull towards each other is a definite slow burn, but once they give in, its truly beautiful! Seeing Jensen being loved in the way she deserved is everything. Dont get me wrong, there are definite moments that I just wanted to say SERIOUSLY? I wanted to slap some sense into her. There are pivotal moments in this book that drive everything to a breaking point and I was definitely on the edge of my seat. I never saw it coming thats for sure!!! Ms Cowles has written a book that will resonate with me. Its beautifully told and draws the reader in making us want to be in Sutter Lake and experience this small town life where everyone knows their neighbor and its really true that family is more than blood!

But…with the F word in what seemed like every paragraph, almost every sentence and the sex scenes cheapness it to a degree I didn\’t enjoy it, even the grandmother said it. Makes me wonder if the author and family talks like this. I won\’t be reading anything else by this author.

Ok so weve waited for this book, learning about Jenson and Tucker through Beautifully broken piece and Beautifully broken life. This was eagerly anticipated by those that love Catherines books. And Catherine did not disappoint!! BBS is absolutely brilliant. It had it all, angst, romance, love, heartache, denial, and that twist! Jenson is so tough, shes been through so much. She put up these walls and shes no intention of letting anyone through them, but thats too late hes already in and has been there for some time. Tuck been keeping secrets thats tearing him apart, he can no longer watch the damage its doing to his family, but thats not the only secret hes keeping! Its the love story we all want, but its not going to come easy. Theres always going to be people who get in the way. I love you just as you are, as you were meant to be. Wild and free. Perfection

This third book us the story of Jensen Cole and Tucker (Tuck) Harris, respectively the sister and best-friend of the hero from book 1. Jensen is a single mum to her sweet 9 year old son – Noah. Jensen has had two relationships in her past, both which ended horribly. One gave her Noah, and one was with a man who almost killed her brother and his girlfriend. She cant forgive herself for what she feels was her fault, and doubts her own instincts. Tucker (Tuck) Harris fears looking in the mirror and seeing his dad, so he keeps away from series relationships (have a 3 night/day rule), he and Jenson have always had a unique bond, and once they start to see each other different, once the spark of attraction ignites there\’s no going back – no the question is will their fears and danger getting closer and closer, destroy the magic that could. Dual POV keeps the pacing good and helps keep the reader engaged. One thing that I didn\’t like here was the positioning of Tuck as a manwhore, that layer of his personality/character was just wholly unnecessary.
