I promise you’ll be hooked on this holiday read, romance with a twist of a mystery to boot! Delightful novella length will put you in the holiday spirit! A book lovingly set in a seaside village I could imagine myself walking barefoot on the beach as the waves crashed to the shore. Christmas is a bittersweet time for Pippa Freeman. There are good memories of course but some she’d really rather forget. Then when her mother is implicated in a strange occurrence close to their home and the town finds out about it could it really get any worse? Lost friendships renewed, secrets found out and resolved and second chance love. Warm book for your holiday I know you’ll enjoy!

Review #3

Audiobook Christmas at Borteen Bay (Borteen Secrets #2.5) by Morton S. Gray

I greatly enjoyed my third visit to Borteen Bay. The small mentions given to characters from previous books made me smile. Having said that this book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novella. With a shocking discovery on the beach early on and a touch of intrigue created by family secrets, it hooks you from the start as youd expect from Morton S Gray.

The story is told from the point of view of the main characters, Ethan and Pippa, who are both still touched by occurrences from their past, that have divided them. So when Pippa has to turn to Ethan for help, it is more than a body on the beach that is brought to the surface. As the two are thrown together it becomes apparent that Ethan is a different type of romantic hero; he is more measured in his responses and passions, he is flawed and yet thoroughly likeable.

As a novella, it is great to escape into for a few hours over the busy Christmas period. I enjoy Mortons writing style and the world she has created in her Borteen Bay series. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Audio Christmas at Borteen Bay (Borteen Secrets #2.5) narrated by Penelope Freeman

I could have so easily read this story in one sitting as the unusual beginning (for a Christmas story) and the early twist pulled me in and quickly had me gripped. As the story unfolded I found myself rooting for the main characters, in particular Ethan, who is a refreshing new type of hero as hes stable, supportive, understanding and also totally believable and realistic, yet he has a vulnerable side he has learnt to overcome. Some novels have their heroes losing their temper or acting on impulse to show their passion, but Ethan is a step apart from these cardboard cut-outs and it is so refreshing to read basically he is a keeper. A very enjoyable read about family secrets, new discoveries and learning to face the past. It links back to the other two novels in the series (which I have also read and thoroughly enjoyed) but remains a stand-alone novella in its own right. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I read a large excerpt from this on a website a couple of days ago, so it only took me a morning to finish the book. I loved the story, the characters and the twists and turns in the plot – so many secrets!
Only giving 4 stars because I was a bit miffed that only 83% of what downloaded to my Kindle is this story – the rest is adverts for Choc Lit, a bit about the author and a sample of another of her books. Also there are some speech marks/inverted commas missing, and a few where there shouldn’t be any. I find that such things take me out of the story, as do spelling errors – LIQUOR coffee, anyone? And before anyone jumps at me – we’re all entitled to our opinions.
Looking forward to this author’s next book – I noticed that one of the secondary characters appears to have a secret that wasn’t followed up on, so maybe it’s a hint that there’s another story in the offing.
