I hardly know where to start on this review, the book was captivating and held my interest from cover to cover. It was so full of stuff my mind is still reeling. You are gonna love the wrap-up in the end 🙂

Nell comes back from her PsyLED training and barely has time to walk in the door before things start to happen and this level of action keeps going. It does slowdown from time to time but usually it is just a short break before something else is going wrong.

So let me make a list:

Soulwood does not feel right and there is still an evil presence to deal with

Some problems are happening back at the church compound that could tie back to Nell

It is getting close to the full moon and the were panther members of the team seem to be getting less and less helpful and possibly even dangerous

Something is killing animals in a paranormal way and Nells special talents are required

Seems somebody might want her dead

Oh, the world as we know it might be in danger

Plus, somebody betrays one of the team and of course Nell has to fix it

I cannot give you the story since I dont do spoilers but Nell is like those old Timex commercials takes a lickin and keeps on tickin , heck, at this rate we need to put a medic on the team.

The best part is I loved it all and even though it kept me stressed out a good bit the ending was amazing with only a couple of threads to carry into the next book (I could have used another page or two on Rick)

Bottom line: Exceptional story, amazing characters, so many possible bad guys it was amazing to read as they whittled the number down to size. Throw in some subplots about Rick, the church, the very barest touch of romance (we know how long it took to get Jane a boyfriend, looks like the same here), save the world plots, and worry about her garden and every bit of it was done so well I never even thought about scanning ahead. Add to the fact that once again we have a heroine that is like no other, no copy cat/cloned/plagiarized heroine here, totally original and totally engrossing. 5 Stars

Yep, no vamps & no werewolves, at least not at the time.
Faith Hunter’s new Soulwood #2 “Curse on the Land” continues the high standards she set in her “Jane Yellowrock” series, but has an entirely different feel to it. Otherworldly, but sometimes that’s because our main character, Nell, was raised in such seclusion that the modern world can feel like Mars! I love getting a fresh perspective by looking around through Nell’s eyes!

Nell is back from Psy-led training, or “Spook School” and happy to be on her own land, when her first case comes in with a bang! Why are animals being taken over by the need to walk or swim in circles until death? Why is black tar-ish mold showing up? And will this continue?
And more important, will Occam keep calling Nell “sugar”?

This book definitely has more action than the first, where so much groundwork had to be done. It is actually one of my favorite kinds of writing, because I learn new science & law enforcement terminology as Nell does, and I adore reading with my kindle so I can learn more about a particular phrase or word.

I absolutely loved this book, and if you haven’t grabbed it yet, now’s the time!!

Thank you, Faith Hunter! You make your fans and family proud!

Audiobook Curse on the Land (Soulwood #2) by Faith Hunter

I love this series. I love Nell. I love the way she sees the world in a clean and practical way and yet also sees the magic. I love the fact that she bends when necessary and still keeps the core of her strength solid and true. The author says there will only be one more book for Nell. I can’t wait to read it, and then I will be sad because I already want more Nell. We need more Nell.

Audio Curse on the Land (Soulwood #2) narrated by Khristine Hvam

I was so excited to immerse myself in Nell’s world again. I’ve read this book in record time. I’m about to read it a second time to catch all the tiny bits and pieces I missed the first read. It’s an amazing complex tale with several story lines at once, like all of Faith Hunter’s books, and each is easy to follow yet intriguing and fascinating as a whole. Rick LaFleur has a powerful change in his life, and true to his nature of having difficulty with gratitude, we’re left wondering. Relationships of Nell’s PsyLED team are empowered, and Nell’s experiences with her own magic and the Earth grow and mature. I’m already all ready for the third on the Soulwood series. Faith, you ROCK!!!

Words can’t describe how much I love Faith Hunter and the world she has created around Jane Yellowrock and now Nell Ingram. I loved the first book in the Soulwood series and Nell became as dear to me as Jane has done. This book people just completely blew me away. The science, the intricacy, the ever twisted and convoluted plots, the politics and now the policing too. Nell has a mystery to solve and it seems she is in a unique position to solve it. Her strength of spirit, intelligence and bravery just shone through. I am so excited to see where the next book will take us, there are so many threads to follow, like how is Rick doing? (big revelation in this one folks and although I have had my share of love and hate for him through the Jane books, I have always had a bit of a thing for him and wish him to find his peace) What exactly is Nell? Are we going to see the old ones again? How is Nell going to cure her land?

The story itself though got solved, with much blood shed and tears. Despite the paranormal overlay of this world, the story itself remains so current. Corrupt companies with their thoughts on the money, the threat of terrorism, the background of possible natural disaster, the consequences of how we are polluting our world and most of all the human individual and the choices we make. I won’t bore you with what happens, if you’re reading this you probably already know this wonderful author, if not, please please you are missing out, go start at the beginning. What I will say is it left me breathless and it consumed my every waking thought for days. As always a little of this wonderful world always stays with me in between books, it remains one of my absolute favourites.
