This is definitely not one of my favorites of the Dark Carpathian series, but it’s okay. Aside from Jaxon having an incredibly stupid name, I thought she was kind of annoying. Through most of the book, she is so resistant to everything Carpathian and she doesn’t want to be “like them” – then suddenly, she’s not only okay with it, she’s using the powers that she has gained through her lifemate link with Lucian (and using them like a pro). It just didn’t ring for me. On a positive note, I was happy to see another human female as a lifemate. It gets really old reading about the Carpathian women who apparently all have blue-black hair and black eyes.
I thought this story kind of dragged here and there, which made it difficult for me to really get into it and get lost in the story. I guess it’s worth a read if you’re into this series, but it’s certainly one you could pass by and not miss a beat in the ongoing series. Nothing new happens in this one that ties in with anything that might happen in a future story. I would say maybe give this one a shot if you can get it at a fairly cheap rate. I don’t think it’s worth the regular Kindle price, though.

Dark Guardian audiobook in series Dark
I have read reviews complaining about the male arrogance of Lucian. What does the readers expect from a male over two thousand years old ? A modern house-hubby ? I think Ms. Feehan wove the ancient male and the modern woman together brilliantly. We have Lucian one of the most ancient and deadliest of Carpathian vampire hunters to ever live finding his life mate in Jaxxon , a fiesty, mouthy, completely modern cop. How Lucian compromises his old world views and Jason’s modern ideas makes for a lot a smiles and tears.
I adore the Carpathian novels up to and including Dark Slayer after that it’s all down hill for me. The next book in the series and those that follow, read like a completely different person wrote them. The difference it startlingly to Christine Feehan’s fans. I firmly believe in a ” before” and “after” to this series and either you love the newer ones or the older novels. As far as the older stories starting with ” Dark Prince” I could not recommend them enough.

Dark Guardian audiobook by Christine Feehan
I so enjoyed Lucien & Jaxson’s story. He was great, of course he was a dominant alpha, but so tender, loving and patient with her. And so romantic too, I mean decorating his home as per the images he had picked from her mind, and the ending he gave her was perfect. Jaxson (for the most part) was my kind of heroine: beautiful, strong, resourceful and very smart. I loved reading about how she adapted about now being Carpethian and using her new powers. And I was very grateful (that unlike the heroine in “Dark Secret”, a book I recently read and hated) she was not in a perpetual lust frenzy, 24/for/7. Jaxso does experience desire for the hero, but with moderation and never in a demeaning sort of way. And most importantly to me, there is a lot of the hero’s point of view throughout the book, what he is feeling, thinking etc. Yes, there are the inevitable graphic love scenes, but if you are like me, you can skip some of those pages, for the rest of the story is too fabulous to miss.
However, there were a few things I did not like. I did not say the book was perfect, but rather that I loved it. For starter we have a very tiny
heroine yet again. Secondly, I know in the animal world the male of the species, has the longer feathers, the nicer mane, but in the human world, I like for the woman’s hair to be longer, or at least as long as the he. Trivial I know, but I am writing about my personal likes in my reading material. Also I love when the heroines are very in touch with their Amazonic side, but I rather they be femenine and elegant, instead of somewhat of tomboy as Jaxson is (althoughe she is femenine in her own sort of way). And finally what bothered me the most was the heroine’s self image, though she was supposed to be beautiful she does not think she is . And worse she does not think she deserves him, because he is so gorgeous that he deserves someone (who unlike her) is tall, beautiful and elegant. That was a big turn off for me. Not the mental pictures I want. I gues one cannot have every fantasy fulfill in a book. Still all in all, this book was really wonderful.

Dark Guardian audio narrated by Abby Craden
Fabulous. He has always been a protector. She has also strived to protect those she views as weaker than her. When they meet, it is the clash of the titans. Women are viewed as gentle creatures to be nurtured and protected by his race. She wants to be viewed as a fellow fighter. Can the two ever resolve their differences and become one? Loved the gutsy heroine who takes no prisoners. Wonderful read. Had to replace my hard copy after constant re-creating.

One of my Favourites in the entire series, which I’ve read many times.
Some of the charcters especially the male Carpathians get quite similar to one another as the series progresses although this isn’t necessarily bad until way later e.g. Dark Fire is one of my favourites and it’s later in the series, but what it does mean is that I find Dark Guardian to be one of the stronger books in the series.
This book Is a great bit of escapism with a strong make and female lead.
