Dragon’s Time: Dragonriders of Pern

I actually only read this book as I purchased it by mistake. That being said, this is my review:

This is the most convoluted, unenlightening book Pern. I did read these out of order, should have started with Dragonsblood; however, most reviewers say that one is also confusing. I don’t think that Todd McCaffrey has the same touch that his mother had when it comes to story-telling. I was lost through most of the book, although I did like the characters. However, one of the most confusing aspects was cross-careers, i.e., healer who became dragonrider, harper who was and became again a dragonrider.
The timing aspects of the book were also confusing – you couldn’t tell if they’re jumping forward to the future, or back to the past, or in the present! How they did and didn’t meet themselves coming and going! I did not like the idea of multiple wives, husbands, etc. Couldn’t tell which kid was who’s. And then there were kids who’s parents were alive, but somewhere else altogether.
All in all, I would have to say that this book is badly written, no cohesiveness, and left me wondering at the end if there’s any reason to buy any more that were co-written with Anne McCaffrey’s children. Think they would have done better to let go of Mama’s skirts, and try creative writing on their own merits.

Pretty good Pern story but as a previous reader wrote, I miss Anne too. Difficult to follow some of the confusion with ‘timing convolutions’ but all in all it’s all about the people who love dragons and I’m a lover of the genre.

There was nothing new to add to the plot, it was too repetiive. Timing it back and forth got tiresome. the last 2 books could have been combined into one book and cut out a lot of it. I miss Anne!

This has to be one of theWORSTnBooks by the McCafferys I have ever read, really poor story and just plain bad writing….plus no continuity with the other stories.

Dont waste your time

This book is totally different and much harder to follow than the original series. Did not enjoy and will not be recommending to other who enjoy the dragon rider books.
