Heartthrob (The Bennett Brothers #3)

I bought this book because I read the first book in the series and enjoyed the characters and the drama in the story. The summary of the story sounded engaging so I picked it up.

I will say that the first 40% of the book was a good read. The last part of the book draaaagged and I had to force myself to finish it. There is a lot going on in the book that is not around the H and h. I would have enjoyed the book more had there been less of that and more groveling from the H.

I loved how the book started and felt the story lines was very original. The H and the h were hooking up and the h fell in love but the H had other priorities that resulted in him breaking up with the h. It was well done. As a reader, you didn’t hate the H but you also wanted to shake him. Then fast forward to four and a half years later and the H and the h are hooking up again and they never addressed the H walking all over the h. The readers are not given details just told they started hooking up again at a wedding. I thought that was unusual but also different enough to keep me reading to get more details. The H says something that makes the h realize that their relationship is not what she wants and walks out breaking up with the H. I was totally cheering her on! I was really excited about how this was going to play out especially after the readers hear some of the stuff that had been going on the last 4 and a half years. I wanted answers and good ones! I was crushed to see this sassy, strong h cave to the H with the same record breaking speed as the rest of the doormat h’s. Very frustrating. I thought we would at least get a few chapters of rebuilding after 5 years of heartache. Instead the H climbs into bed naked with her and well… you can pretty much guess the rest. In the h voice she stated, “It didn’t take long to break down my resistance and crush all the years of heartache and heartbreak.” Ummm…really? As a reader I felt cheated. I don’t want to misrepresent this exchange, they do have a brief conversation where the H explains his logic. He apologizes and goes through some thoughts. They just fall short. For example, in three sentences, he addresses why he silently watched the h try online dating without stepping up. I am not sure that his explanation made any sense. From my perspective he had a lot to make up for, A LOT. Treating someone so indifferently, I needed some serious convincing that he was in it for her and not just convenience or how well she fit into his family. This is suppose to be the love of your life and this H could not have been more blase about being with her. A few pages of explanations does not resolve the situation. I am not sure that if the h had put up a big fight, the H would not have thought she was worth. Maybe she didn’t want to put up a big fight because she knew he would only fight for her a little bit and he had already made it clear to her that he wasn’t going to do that for her. Either way, we don’t know because she caves right away. Then the h shares with the the readers, “I tell him everything. I gave in and ripped my soul open, talking and crying…” Why weren’t the readers privy to the most important conversation in the book?! After that there was really nothing. I kept reading hoping that some insecurities would then develop and that the H would have to rebuild some trust as I would imagine would normally happen in such a situation but nope. Nothing. That never happened.

It was disappointing because I really liked this author’s characters and the way that some of her story lines develop. She is able to evoke emotion with her writing but then fell short on doing so when resolving the 5 year indifference of the H. This is just my opinion. If you can overlook h’s that can just forget 5 years of “heartache and heart break” at the drop of a hat, you might enjoy this book.

Although not necessary, I read the previous two books about the Bennett Brothers, Shaw (Hotshot) and Nick (Sexy Six). When I learned that the third brother, Mathis was going to get his story as well, there was no doubt that I was going to one click this highly anticipated but sadly final book in the series. Mathis and Claire (Heartthrob) did not disappoint and I think they may have edged out as one of my favorites. Heartthrob has it all – romance, steam, angst, mystery, tears, and lots of sass with laughs. Who wouldn’t love a Dr. Delicious of their very own?

3rd book in the series and definitely my favorite! The whole series is so good and well written but this one just stands out for me. Mathis & Claire are opposites that fit like a good pair of gloves. Claire is my all time favorite in the whole series. She has a smart sassy mouth that makes you smile and then has you laughing so hard you have tears! I love this book, the author was new to me when I read the first book in the series but I will now be reading her other books. I guarantee you wont go wrong purchasing this series it is worth every penny!

After loving the two previous novels regarding the Bennett brothers and the women they love, I couldnt wait to read about their older brother. Ahren certainly didnt disappoint! Mathis and Claire have a love story that is unforgettable. It is also great to catch up with Shaw and Bizzy and Nick and Grace. Do yourself a favor and make sure you read all three of these wonderful books.

Once again this author blows me away. I love the Bennett boys and their Alfa ways! I have to say Mathis surprised me. He has quickly became my favorite Bennett man. What a woman wouldn’t do to be a #bennettbabe! This story will suck you in and make you continue to flip the pages. The hotness factor is off the charts. Their continued dedication and love for the children’s oncology department will bring you to tears. I love most of all that we get the full effect of all the Bennett’s!
