Good and bad things, but nothing terrible. ***SPOILERS*** Pro: So having the dimensional-hopping vehicle stationary, while moving the multiverse around it is creative. It\’s been done before, but this was a good way of setting up a story with a changing environment, without having to worry about arranging compact travel gear etc. The entire premise covers only three days in around 400 pages, which allows for a decent amount of storytelling. I also liked the \’Show\’ not \’Tell\’ aspect. Exposition gets old fast. Cons: Having the eccentric uncle be the actual father is supposed to be a gut punch, apparently. But the protagonist isn\’t affected, other than a \’huh\’ sort of reaction. In addition, this uncle is somehow able to predict the protagonists exact words in a lengthy monologue, and not predict his own demise. What\’s rather worse as a plothole is how this dimension-hopping device is not working. Much ado is made about \’72 hours\’ being the longest timespan before it engages again, or else the Big Bad will arrive and … do things. Yet the protagonist is able to have an uncle, know him for over 18 years, and not have any weird changes around the world. Did the vehicle\’s transitional setting extend to the entire planet? Is the kid somehow so accepting of people changing into crabs/cats/whatever that it makes no impact when the car dimensional-hops, dragging the entire circle into a new dimension that does not encompass the entire world? This is a pretty big problem, story-wise. How did the protagonist\’s father manage to stay in place so long if he simultaneously has to leave within 72 hours? The main premise was that to the builder\’s knowledge the vehicle CANNOT return to the same space, that there is no way to send it back. Discombobulating. Back to Pros; I loved the whole lore building. Having Tesla kill a planet, and Edison lose their duel, neat! A world of multi-species humanoids, great! Learning to build and survive, fantastic! **END SPOILER** In summary, -2 for plot holes, -1 for spelling issues, +3 for an imaginative tale that ends on a cliffie.

If you\’ve seen Sliders, you\’ll remember how every episode was the MC and his friends moving from parallel universe to parallel universe unable to control where they\’d end up and having no idea if they would ever slide back to their original universe. It was an interesting premise, that offered some unusual story/plot opportunities. This tale has the MC starting up a similar device, but one that is fixed in location. Instead it takes everything within a certain radii around the machine with each jump. And like the characters in Sliders, the MC can only control when the next doorway will open, but not where it will lead. Add in the fact that he didn\’t turn it on intentionally, and that he\’s woefully underequipped and you have the start of an interesting tale. However, this tale is called Monster Girl Base. There aren\’t a huge number of Monster Girls, and while he does eventually plan to turn the area around the machine into a more permanent base, at first he doesn\’t try to do any fixing up of the place. He stumbles around the landscape with no real plan. Which is why I can\’t give this story a higher grade. Its not bad, but the cast is deliberately kept very small, and then even with the small cast the author fails to give the characters traits that make them interesting. I mean they are described nicely and like every harem tale the female characters do want the MC. But it just never got me interested in the outcome. It seemed to lack focus, except when the author wanted to rush everyone back to the location of the machine so they could ride its energy field as it tunneled to the next universe. It should have been stronger.

Audiobook Monster Girl Base by Logan Jacobs
This new story is a fun ride. Lots of mystery and fun and you never know what\’s going to happen next.the main character is stuck with a dimension-hopping car that changes every 72 hours so one never knows what dimension he\’s going to be in next. he has 72 hours to search around in the dimension he\’s in then he has to make it back to the car before it leaves without him. Of course he meets a new girl in each dimension so far he\’s been into two would love to see what happens next hope he writes a new book in the series.

Audio Monster Girl Base narrated by Alex Perone Marissa Parness
At first I felt like this book was a bit all over the place. But as the story progressed and I realised that I had read the whole thing and all that had happened was the MC getting chased by a lot of everything. I wasn\’t disappointed. In fact I\’m looking forward to more worlds and some actual Base building in the next books. Lookiny forward to book 2.

Certainly something highly entertaining to read, I enjoyed reading it from start to finish, I must admit the two female characters certainly intrigues me into how their relationship with the mc shall develop in the future.
