Secrets Unsealed (Triggerman, Inc. #2)

I felt like the book jumped into sex between the H and h with plot development lacking. Some of the suspense is built up in book 1 but book 2 lost some momentum. There were several really implausible moments; almost silly since they all know to be cautious of someone being after them. The mystery still makes me want to read book 3.

Four and a half stars. Secrets Unsealed is the second in Marie Harte’s Triggerman, Inc series, about three assassins and a baby 🙂 This story features Deacon Shaw, known in his business as the Shadow, and ex-supermodel Solene Hansen. We first meet these two in Contract Signed, the first book–they’re friends of Noel and Addy, and get along as well as oil and water. But as we well know, opposites can attract fiercely, and throw in some serious chemistry and sarcasm, and the combination is nearly irresistible. So, when the danger to Solene amps up, Deacon intends to do everything in his power to keep her safe. Marie Harte keeps up the heat in Secrets Unsealed, and Deacon and Solene are incredibly entertaining together. There’s enough suspense to keep the plot rolling, but the banter between this couple and with their friends keeps the atmosphere lighter. I couldn’t stop reading, and am quite eager to continue Ms Harte’s series!

Disclaimer first: I haven’t finished this book and I probably won’t. Why, when I almost always finish a book? Because I have no clue what is happening, who the bad guys are, who the rest of the characters are! A lot of book 2’s can be read as a standalone. You don’t know everything but you can figure it out. This can’t so far (25% of the way in) It started fine, introducing the 3 main men, but then the next thing you know, they are a team, in the middle of a different op that is in the middle of unravelling. Too many unknowns to catch up. I will probably just delete it from my kindle and never finish it which is too bad, because the men are probably interesting, the women might be also, and you can see where book 3 is going to come in already.

I didn’t know what I was expecting, but I sure got a lot. I haven’t read book 1, I believe I will, and then read the others too. For starters, this was told a lot differently than others in that the mystery and action was threaded in so well, with hints, here and there, of a previous situation, and the knowledge that there would be a follow up. It’s not a true ‘stand-alone’ but should you not get a chance to read the others, you’ll still be almost satisfied with this one. Now, if you do not like steamy sexual situations, be forewarned, there’s a bucket load of them in this story. It’s gritty, it’s kinky, it’s there! I’m pretty good at skipping and skimming, but, with even the sex being worked into the action, it’s a job! Believe me. I totally enjoyed this extremely well written story. The characters were perfectly described, the plot was full of mystery and thrills. I loved the way the setup to the following books was just hinted at enough to let you know that more thrills were coming. Seriously, I would recommend this to any ‘adult’ that loves a truly good and well thought out story that’s got everything, including good humor and laughs along the way.

Deacon and Solene play well off each other. He may be a big bad assassin, but she can hold her own in a fight. Solene may have been a model, may own a daycare, but she is looking for something more. He didn’t know he was ready for a change. But they still have to deal with Little D (the baby) and who the parents are and who is trying to kill or kidnap any or all of them. Mayhem ensues, the good guys get a step closer to the truth, but the road ahead is not smooth.
