Paranormal with an urban fantasy vibe.
Plenty of snark and humour. Characters I really enjoyed, – sarcastic, crazy guys who bicker and have sex, bicker some more and so on.
There’s a bit of ‘forced for your own good’ mate bonding, which I’m not adverse to.
There’s also knotting….and even more knotting. Yeah, baby…
While the book is sexy when Ian and Nate get it on, the ratio of story to sex is really good – I got plot, world building and character development.

This is a kind of enemies to lovers stories. Really it’s a ‘duh, why didn’t I get that you felt that way’ to lovers/mates story. It provides strong chemistry.

Ian is big, in all areas, strong, an Alpha wolf in his own right. He’s also the Armitage pack enforcer. He’s 2IC to his brother Matthew, acts before he thinks, and drives a muscle car like a crazy mofo. He is also a good guy underneath his intensity. He has a sense of humour but he keeps it locked down. The pack is not well off and life hasn’t been a bed of roses. The Kimball pack is not an easy neighbour and the Armitage pack can’t afford a mage or warlock to help with wards.

Nate is the son of a human mother, who isn’t on the scene, and an @-hole warlock father who has historically liked to manipulate others for his magic services and use his own son as a personal magic battery. His family is one of dysfunction. He may be insecure but he doesn’t back down with his words and his thoughts. He made me laugh because he’s as sharp as a tack and he can be petty – magicking Ian’s favourite socks, you have to read it.

I’m so happy to have found Eliot Grayson, so far they’ve delivered the goods every book I’ve read of theirs. There’s total entertainment in every one of their stories. This is the first in the Mismatched Mates series, nice way to kick it off. I guessed one of the MCs for the next book but the other was not what I was expecting. Waiting excitedly for book #2 – taps foot anxiously – Captive Mate.

I think I’ve been searching for another series for so long that I can’t even fathom that its 2 am where I live and I just spent over 3 hours reading this book because I had to know the ending. Book 2 can’t come soon enough for me I am excited to see what happens in this new world that I have been brought to. I love this book and think it is very nicely dont. It is long and follows a writing style I personally like. It isent every ones cup of tea but it is mine. I would recommend to anyone who wants a nice long read with a nice relationship build and of course the loving HEA. With the bonus of more books to come.

Audiobook The Alpha’s Warlock (Mismatched Mates #1) by Eliot Grayson

“The Alpha’s Warlock” is my first book by Eliot Grayson, and actually the first female author in the m/m romance genre I’ve read. I liked the fantasy of a warlock who has not been trained to control his magic having a “mate bond” with a werewolf whose temper is explosive. While there is a lot in the plot about rival packs, vampires and magical warfare, much of the book is about how Nate learns to communicate with his werewolf mate Ian. While the tale doesn’t overly sizzle, it’s a sweet story. It does seem to end somewhat abruptly, perhaps more concerned with setting up the sequel in the series than with tying up the tale with a flourish. Enjoy!

Audio The Alpha’s Warlock (Mismatched Mates #1) narrated by Chris Chambers

Nate was supposed to be sassy and funny, but instead came off as childish and whiney. Add in some non-con sex and one dimensional secondary characters who’s only purpose is to draw out a ridiculous plotline. This book is going straight to the trash bin.

Hero likeable even though he doesn’t think so. Dense about werewolf mate and his motive. Secondary characters Charlie and Dor I want a book about. Charlie may be contender for most original vampire. Dor species not identified but I suspect Drow or handsome mage goblin like another author has.
