The End of Her

Every time Shari LaPena writes a new book, I immediately pre-order it so its at my front door the day its released. So needless to say, I was filled with pleasant anticipation when The End of Her arrived on July 28th. I dug right in, expecting another Who dunnit? page-turner; but instead discovered a rather stale and familiar tale of a scorned ex-lover coming back to town to wreak havoc on her former boyfriend and his happy wife! The story played out like one of those Lifetime movies on TV and became absolutely preposterous! It was so redundant that I skipped to the end few chapters just to see if the ending had any twist or merit! While Im not going to reveal/spoil it for would-be readers, the ending was so bad ( even laughable) that I hesitated passing the book on to a friend who also was anxiously waiting to read it. As I said, I usually love Shari LaPenas work, but she slept-walked through this one!

This book is more domestic drama, rather than the author’s traditional domestic thriller. The thriller aspect was completely missing. The characters’ inner monologues were incredibly repetitive, and the “did he or did he not” case at the center was difficult to find any sympathy about at all. The supporting characters did not warrant inclusion, and they added nothing to the drama with their own connections. Overall, I was left saying “who cares” about every other page.

Fans of her work will be extremely disappointed, especially by the lack of any significant ‘thriller’ plot component. If you’re a first time potential reader of Lapena, please go grab one of her other books! You will not be disappointed with previous novels!

Disappointed in this book. i have read all her books and this book.was very short and not captivating at all. The ending was terrible .

All hail the queen of the page turners.
Youd think the plot of the wife and husband who are living happily in life would be just another one of those books. But no. Its not. Its crazy from chapter 2 until the end. And each of the characters introduced have a place in the story and it falls together brilliantly. Sorry where was i ….cut to an x lover comes back to Stir the pot. And that she does.
The way Shari puts those twists and turns are what makes her stand out an author like no other.
This book is not what you think and its wasnt you guessed. Its totally the opposite and the ENDING . Is. The. Best.

I love everyone of her books. And will patiently wait on the next one to come out.

I have read all of this authors books, and I really like her style. Her stories are easy to follow and move along at a nice pace. She is gifted at drawing you in right away and keeping you wanting to turn the pages.

Stephanie is a new mom of twins trying to cope with sleepless nights when her world is rocked by the sudden arrival of a woman from her husbands past, Erica. Erica makes some pretty bold accusations about Stephanies husband, Patrick, stating he killed his first wife. However, Erica is a blackmailer and not a credible person…Stephanie doesnt know who to believe. As events escalate, it becomes clear that things are more complicated and devastating than she thought.

I whizzed through this book and enjoyed it. My only criticism is the ending. As with her last book, Someone We Know, things are left a little too open ended. Is there a sequel? I was left wanting to know more. Overall a great read, though!
