Flying Dutchman was protecting the space around the planet earth when it was called by the UN to save the crew which has landed on the surface of planet Paradise. The crew of the Expeditionary Force went on a survey mission in space but what they found was a horrifying nightmare that became true for them.
Their ship got destroyed and they lost lives on a big scale. Few of the members who were able to save their lives have now landed on the strange planet which looks like a paradise from the outside.

The reality of the planet is darker than the imagination of a human being. The remaining members of the crew must find their way back to the earth so that they can warn the people of the earth what is coming to them. Flying Dutchman started traveling towards this planet in Paradise but that rescue ship has not yet come to the aid of these men. Till now the men are on their own as they plan for their survival seriously without waiting for any help from their homeworld, the situation is just like Deathtrap.
Craig Alanson depicts the zeal of the soldiers here who have two duties in their hands. The first one is to protect themselves and the second is to try to warn their nation before it is too late. R.C. Bray tries different things in narration when the story begins like highlighting the yelling and calling sounds but he does not take this till the end. Perhaps the narrator just wanted to experiment in the first four chapters after which he deals with the things normally.
