Enchanted (Masters and Mercenaries #18.5)

This book absolutely did me in! To be a novella, there was so much emotion, so much love, so much STORY! This is one that you will need a box full of tissues to get through! But it\’s not just the emotional, there is still plenty of the heat that the M&M stories are known for, as well as a sense of family that is inescapable. Sarah and Jared had a connection from their very first meeting, but life with all of its craziness keeps getting in their way. Now Jared wants a second chance, but Sarah keeps pushing him away. Jared, along with a few Sanctum helpers come up with a crazy scheme to help Sarah see exactly how much he wants her in his life. I could tell from the very beginning that Sarah was hiding something, and I knew it was gonna be big. It had to be big, to keep these two, who were so clearly perfect for each other, apart. When the truth came out, I cried big, ugly tears! I had to step away for a minute to get myself together. But the story was so well written, and the sad was perfectly balanced with the happy, and the love, and the family support. Definitely a must read for lovers of the M&M series, and a fun introduction for anyone who hasn\’t been immersed in this world!

I normally enjoy L. Blake more than this. I only read 2 or 3 authors in this genre because I feel their stories are all the same with unrealistic female characters. Not usually true with Blake. While happy to see these two get their own story. I felt it fell back on some of the same old fairytale situations in other books. Blake\’s D/s relationships are usually written without the clamps & spankings. When a man runs a tally & spanks your bare butt 31 times in the manner described here, it is no longer play or fun. My parents raised me completely. No help needed from my husband. In the book they never tell of the removal of the clamps. Last mentioned her chest looked like it had raspberrys on it. Ouch!. More then a bite of pain. I am adventurous sexually, but not submissive I guess because what was written here, wouldn\’t ever happen in our bedroom. This book had pain to the point of tears, & they weren\’t tears of joy. Still worth the read just not the stong funny female character Blake usually writes. Have only 3 stars for that reason.

Part of the authors Masters and Mercenaries and related Bliss, Colorado series, the author has created a complex world, with many complicated and intriguing characters. Its a world Im still exploding as I was a latecomer to the series, and while this works well as an intro, imo, youll get more enjoyment from it if youre already familiar with at least some of the characters and their backgrounds. I really liked both Jared and Sarah, and the author had me cheering for both of them right from the start. Jared has made some mistakes, but hes also carrying some guilt for things outside of his control. One of those mistakes was not going after Sarah when he had a chance; its a mistake hes determined to rectify, and with Sarah determined to keep him at arms length, if he has to be a little sneaky to do it, so be it. I have to say, Jareds sneakiness is one of my favorite things about him, lol. The setup of a masquerade gave the story a fairytale feel I loved, but dont worry, theres heat, too, and this is definitely a tale for grownups *grins*. Though there are some secrets driving the plot (Im typically NOT a fan of extended secret keeping as a plot device), it worked extremely well here, partly because the secret Jared keeps from Sarah is relatively short term, and partly because this author is just that good. While this series typically has suspense elements, that took a back seat here as its more about how family is what you make it, and accepting help when you need it. Its a lesson both Jared and Sarah need, and there are a lot of appearances by familiar secondary characters to help make the point. There is some suspense, though, as while there are a lot of laughs to start out the book (I loved the chapter headlines and Ian Taggart is pretty much guaranteed to make me laugh), its clear pretty fast that something serious is going on with Sarah, and getting to the bottom (pun intended) is what drives both Jared and the story. Funny and touching, with wonderful characters, this is a nice intro to the series and this author for newbies, and an even better story for long term fans. 5+ stars B2B Kelly

If you are a follower of the Mercenaries then you know they are highly skilled and live dangerous lives. The missions they go on put their lives at risk each and every time. They may have to rescue someone, kidnap someone, or gain intel, but this next mission is a serious matter of the heart. An actor from Hollywood has been fighting against emptiness for some time after leaving Sara behind, and he knows what he has to do to get her back. He can\’t do it alone and this mission of the heart is definitely going to take some help from the Mercenaries and possibly a few submissives. Jared has a lot of damage control he\’s going to have to hammer out, and Sara is watching her back this time around. She\’s not one to be fooled the second time around and won\’t easily be so trusting. Sara has made a difficult decision and has laid her life on the line and her future depends on her making the best decision for herself, so the last thing she needs is Mr. Hollywood coming along and distracting her. Jared realizes it\’s going to take a new game plan to win Sara back and it\’s not beneath him to play dirty. He forgets though who he is dealing with. His little bratt is pretty smart, so instead of coming in through the front door; so to speak, he needs to come in through the back door, and show her he is in charge and can handle whatever she needs. He reminds her who her master is and what his responsibilities are to her. I love the Master of Mercenaries Novellas, and it\’s also pure pleasure when another story comes out. Take the time this summer if you haven\’t already to get know and enjoy Lexi Blake\’s Mercenaries, Lost Boys, and all the other tantalizing characters she\’ll introduce you to.

Loved this book, no plot spoilers, it\’s what you would expect from the world of Sanctum where the Dom\’s have hearts bigger than Texas and the subs create family everywhere they go. I laughed out loud sting Tag\’s sarcasm, I cried at the heart wrenching situation and I cheered them on because Lexi Blake weaves a hell of a storyline with characters so well crafted they feel like real friends. As ever there are BDSM themed sex scenes, each of them appropriate and loving. There are no potential triggers.
