This is NOT a stand-alone book. The book ends with no resolution regarding the fate of Jackson and Catherine’s romance. I feel cheated–after reading 29 chapters, there is no closure.

When I started to read Beloved, I did not realize that is wasn’t a stand-alone book. I am not a fan of this type of series. I prefer the style of series that Lisa Kleypas and many other authors use. They write books where each one in a series is a stand-alone but pleasantly connected to the others in the series.

Since finishing the Beloved, I looked for more information about this book and to see how many books are in the series. In the About This Book on my Kindle, it indicates this is “Book 1 of 2 in the Belonging Duet.” There are five (5) books in the Salvation series. This style of series reminds me of soap operas–they go on and on.

If the Beloved story had come to a conclusion within the framework of one book, the rating would be higher.

I really wish the author had let it be known this book was a cliffhanger. I don’t like cliffhangers and would never had purchased this book had I known.

Audiobook Beloved (Salvation #1) by Corinne Michaels

This books ends with a cliff hanger which I hate and then you add in a leading lady who throughout the whole book is drowning in self pity and you do not get an enjoyable read. I’m a readaholic and I have to finish books even if I don’t like them but in this case I won’t be reading the second book. I do not recommend this book.

A Review of Beloved by Corinne Michaels

Two broken souls – 5+++++ stars

When we first meet Catherine, it is the day of her ninth birthday party and her beloved father is leaving her, never to be seen again. She thinks that it is because she isn’t enough that she wasn’t quiet enough, good enough, happy enough, just “enough” of anything to make her father want to stay. And, since she looks sooo much like her father, her mother takes it out on her throughout her childhood. Fast forward twenty years later and Catherine has two best friends, Ashton and Gretchen. She shares an apartment with Ashton, but is happily planning her wedding to Neil. When she gets their wedding invitations, she heads over to Neil’s house to show them to him and catches him in the middle of having sex with someone she thought was her friend.

Three months later, she is out celebrating Gretchen’s birthday with her friends when a fall lands her in the lap of a gorgeous man. When he asks for her name, she tells him she is engaged and leaves the restraunt as quickly as possible. A couple of days later, she ends up going head to head against Neil for a new client, only to find out that he stole her pitch turns out, you can’t trust a cheater to not use your passwords when you’ve used his computer to log in to business. When she ends up winning the client after all, she is stunned to find the sexy Jackson at the first meeting she has with the CEO of the company.

Catherine is dealing with a lot of pain due to her father leaving her when she was young and the crappy childhood she had. She doesn’t want to get mixed up with Jackson, but her body is so drawn to him that she can’t avoid getting closer to him. And, the closer they get, the more he helps her heart to heal. But, Jackson is holding some dark pain and regrets of his own, which ends up causing more pain for both of them. What happened when he went back to the desert to pick up the body of his friend? This book ends on a major cliffhanger, but I have hope that things will work out for them in the end. Can’t wait to get the next book to find out where their story goes.

I was suckered by an Amazon ad to buy this book for free. Even though it was free, I want to return it. It ends in the middle of an intense scene and absolutely gave me no heads up that it was a part one of two. I knew it was part of a series, but it is misleading that it doesnt indicate book one of two. I enjoyed the book enough to keep reading but the back and forth of her liking him but fearful he was going to leave her was getting old. I feel like the book could have been one book if some of the female characters issues wouldnt have been continuously repeated. Same with him too, because he had secrets as well. Im not a fan of hiding things though. I briefly considered getting book 2 just to get some closure, but after reading some of the reviews, Im not going to bother.
