A Fools Gold Wedding

Wow…cue up the tears as we head back to Fool\’s gold. What a fabulous look into what\’s been going on while we\’ve been gone. Abby is grown up! It\’s been a long time since we\’ve gotten to visit one of my favorite towns, and as I tell people, kids grow up when you\’re not looking. Not only is she an adult, she\’s graduated from college, and has a job lined up for the Fall. She\’ll be teaching school in Fool\’s Gold. This summer, right before her teaching debut, her sister is getting married. No, I\’m NOT kidding. See, we\’ve been away too long! Abby is helping with the wedding, when she\’s tasked with also helping with the groom\’s brother while he\’s in town. Joaquin, the groom\’s brother, is in town for the wedding. But, something is amiss. The wedding is three weeks away. Super smart, like crazy smart, like graduating college as an early teen, Joaquin must be up to something. He\’s a physician who doesn\’t vacation, so what\’s up with taking 3 weeks off? This book was so much fun. Love, romance, angst, misunderstandings, and forgiveness. It\’s a novella so it was a quick read. Fool\’s Gold is a wonderful place. The homes are grand. The kids are all intelligent and good looking. Everyone works together for the common good. Who wouldn\’t want to live here? Take a couple of hours, grab your favorite beverage and a couple of snacks, and indulge yourself by escaping into this book.

Abby, soon to-be Elementary teacher is home in Fool\’s Gold, helping with her sister\’s, Melissa, wedding. She is asked to play guide for Davis\’ older smarter, aneurotypical brother, Dr.Joaquin, who wants to get into Simon\’s Burn Fellowship program. Abby and Joaquin go from friends and pleasant company to lust, as they slowly fall in love with each other. Simon realized that Joaquin arrived earlier to get an introduction and possibly a chance to speak to Simon about the Burn program and his rejected application, and tells him to be honest with Abby. Of course he does not as communication and relationships along with normal activities are not his strong suit. So the con is out, even though he helped her with the place cards and votive painting, so he apologies, realizing that he loves Abby. They make up before the Melissa & Davis wedding. The \’HEA\’ future is theirs. Great quick Summer read, with honesty being the best policy as the theme, and a snap shot into a distorted view into an aneurotypical\’s way of thinking. Loved the way that Susan intertwined this story with the very first book in this series and how Abby and Joaquin were so similar with Montana and Simon. Enjoyed how quirky and funny that Abby is and that she was able to help getting the stuffiness and workaholic out of Joaquin and show him some fun times. I guess it\’s totally different from some of us, that with his brilliant mind and him being in college at such an early age and not being sociable can be pretty awkward. Great job Susan and looking forward to the next story. Happy reading.

Quick fun read! Abby Hendrix is an upbeat positive person. Always willing to help out. Joaquin Kincaid is a brilliant surgeon and socially backwards. When these two meet, sparks are flying. Abby stays her upbeat self, dragging Joaquin into helping with the wedding preparations. She drags him all over the place and yet he is the happiest he\’s ever been. When it all comes crashing down, the last person he expects to help him is Montana, his mentors wife. These Hendrix\’s believe in true love and can spot it when they see it.

Susan Mallery is one of my favorite authors and this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Abby is a cheerful, upbeat person with a lot of friends and an outgoing personality. Joaquin is a brilliant surgeon but not so much of a people person. It isnt just his brothers wedding to Abbys sister that brings him to Fools Gold. Full of hope, yearning, new and unexpected feelings, love and a HEA, in spite of Joaquins secret. The only thing I didnt like is that I wish the story had been longer.
