Evie Dunmore is now ranked in my Top 5 HR writers. I know, this is only her second book, but good gracious, what books they are! Ive been reading Historical Romance for 40 years, so it takes a bit more than an average read to hook me on an author. I knew she was special about two chapters into her first book. By the end of the book, I knew I would read anything and everything she writes. So now we have Tristan and Lucie. No one writes an antagonistic love story any better. I love the mature, common sense women in these books who have banded together to fight for womens rights. It takes strong men to break down their walls and win their hearts. The banter between Lucie and Tristan is perfection. I cant give it any higher praise. The story moves along at just the right pace, keeping you on tether hooks right up to the end. Now, I have to wait for a year to read the next in the series. It cant come soon enough.

I read Bringing Down the Duke twice and loved all the characters, except Lucie. I was not too excited to see she was getting a whole book of her own, but thought I would give it a try hoping we would see a softer side. Wow, was I disappointed! She is downright mean in this book! It is one thing to be ambitious and dedicated, but Lucie was not those, she was just rotten all around. She was horrible to everyone in the book, including her cat who she called so many negative names. Be warned, a lot of negative verbs and adjectives used throughout that it felt very heavy. Tristan was a little better than Lucie, at least he had a soft spot for his mom. He was pretty slimy as a hero. I skimmed the whole second half of the book only slowing down when characters from Bringing Down the Duke were in the scene (even though most of the scenes had Lucie being terrible to them!!). Hoping Hattie’s book is better and that we see less of Lucie.

Audiobook A Rogue of One’s Own (A League of Extraordinary Women #2) by Evie Dunmore

A Rogue of Ones Own is the perfect second installment in the League of Extraordinary Women series by Evie Dunmore.

Lucinda Tedbury is married to her work for the (Suffragist) Cause. Tristan is an artistic rogue, a literary lothario, and the thorn in Lucies side. Their version of the enemies to lovers trope had me smiling from start to finish. Tristan tries to be a cynical anti-hero, but really hes a man in love who will do anything to make Lucie happy.

Honestly this series is so refreshing. I love regency romances as much as anybody, but its so fun watching the Suffragists of the 1870s and 80s campaign for womens rights. Im so grateful for the women (and men!) who came before me; this book, while fictional, incorporates real historical figures into the plot, which is really amazing. I love looking into the nonfictional subplot.

Audio A Rogue of One’s Own (A League of Extraordinary Women #2) narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki

I have mix feelings about this one, I didnt enjoy it as much as i enjoyed Bringing down the Duke, romance foesnt really start until 50 percent of the book, i found it slow and too much into other side stories rather than main character. I found Lucie to be too much of a shrew and the developing of their feelings too fast. Like the author spent so much into other stories and once Lucie decided to become the lover then everything happeend so fast. I would advise though that you read and come to your own conclusions it may be just the book for you.

I was very impressed after reading Evie Dunmore’s debut novel, ‘Bringing Down the Duke,’ last year. I was excited beyond words to read the second book in the series.

In ‘A Rogue of One’s Own’ we get to read Lucie and Tristan’s story and it was magnificent. I loved Lucie’s fierceness and drive and it was riveting to read about her involvement with the Women’s suffrage movement. I was afraid Tristan would be too vain and distasteful, but I have to admit I ended up loving him too. It was a pleasure to read about these two falling in love and to see both of them struggle with the ramifications of said love.

Tristan’s father was extra ghastly in this story and I was glad to see he did not get his way. I also enjoyed reading more about Lucie’s family and seeing that they were not completely past the point of redemption.

Overall, I adored this story, but I must admit that I am most looking forward to Hattie’s story, especially after finding out who the love-interest will be.
