A Shiver of Light

Mate Bond audiobook free

These stories are so colorful and sensual and use beautiful language (albeit redundant at times). I really wish the author would take them to the next level. There is such potential for really epic stories, like LOTR epic, but they have just been restricted to what happens in the bedroom. The ending to this seemed like a straight up afterthought.

Mate Bond audiobook Series Meredith Gentry

I have been anxiously waiting for this book for years and now that I have it in my hands, I can’t believe it!

It is like coming home after beeing away for a long time. It’s good to see everyone again, remembering them and missing them.

I was captured from the very fist page, I know I was going absolutely bonkers waiting to find out the gender, the names of the babies and finding out who some of the fahers are. There is still some mystery about that, even when the book ends.

Both courts are demanding rights for the babies, Andais wanting to see the babies and Tranais who have deluded himself into believing that he is the father of the babies. Merry is more concerned than ever, and even though in my opinion a lot thins happen in this book, there is a lot of talking. That is not necessarily a bad thing, I love the conversations Merry has with her people and with her men. I love the discovering new and interesting things about the men, their backgrounds. To me a lot of talking is plus in my book.

Merry giving birth to the babies and finding out what they can do at an early age is one of my main highlights of the book. The babies have unbelievable powers at such a young age, which is also a bit frigthening for Merry.

I loved every minute of reading it, I didn’t notice how close I was to the end! Which I didn’t want to happen, I wanted the story to continue forever. *sigh*

This was another well written and incredible book from LKH. ALthough the twist and surprises left me screaming in denial, and hysterically sobbing, oh god I hope there is someway she can undo it or someting you’ll understand if you’ve read the book. Oohh I don’t know if I can mentally handle not being able to know what happens next in Merry’s life. I seriously hope there is a next book planned for Merry but I guess it’s a good thing there is a new Anita Blake book coming out in the mean time to distract me:D

This book was phenomenal, it was riveting, the feeling of rapture I got from just reading the book. Aaah. There are no words (that I posses) that can describe how off the charts amazing this book is, I could fawn over it and proclaim it’s awesomeness until I’m blue in the face but y’all wont know until you read it. Some people don’t like this book, eh whatever floats your boat dude, we don’t all have the same taste in books but I LOVE this book and I love LKH.

Audiobook Mate Bond by Laurell K. Hamilton

I have been waiting for the continuation of this story since the last book ended and I think it was worth it. People complain about how descriptive LKH is about everything in her books, but this is not a short story and so I want to know what’s going on with everything I can. This is about creating a scene that is visual and brings you into the story itself, that is what happens here, you cannot help but be pulled in because you know what the setting is so well. It has been five (5) years and I was happy to have the men described to me in minute detail, it gave me a thrill to sit back and see them again after so long. I love this series and the characters who populate it. They are like friends who have been on vacation only to come back for a visit that is not nearly long enough.

Merry is very heavy with child and about to deliver any day, she cannot find out who the father or fathers are until then. That is both a good thing and bad thing since Taranis, the King of Light and Illusion and Merry’s uncle is claiming that he is the father of one or all of her babies from his rape of her. Though she was pregnant when he raped her, he is delusional and believes she consented and was grateful for his rescue. It’s hard enough becoming a parent without having your crazy, powerful uncle trying to claim them and you as a prize.

With everything else that is going on Merry is finding herself being taken to those who carry her nail around their necks as a talisman. She has become a kind of deity to them though she refuses the title. She and the men she love are all waiting for the children but are also dreading the fight they know they will face in order to stay safe and keep their children safe from harm.

This book was a lot more tame than any of those before it as far as violence and sex. With the coming of the babies things have been toned down for the time being. There is happiness, love, lust, pride, loss, and redemption to be found between the pages of this book. If you love or even like the work of LKH you will be happy with this entry. I just hope it is not the last we will be hearing from Princess Meredith Nic Essus and her loves.

Audio Mate Bond narrated by Charlotte Hill

I have loved this series but this book was a bit of a downer for me and I don’t think I’ll be getting the next one. There’s lots of rambling and undoing of previous things. More panic about Merry’s mortality spreading although in the last few books she was less mortal and her opponents in several duels survived mortal wounds. There’s lots of emotional baggage and therapy talk which I thought was more Anita Blake than Merry Gentry, the lack of pyschoanalysing was one of the reasons I liked this series. But almost nothing happened in this book, perhaps if the main events had been condensed into a novella I would have liked it better. But I just couldn’t bring myself to care about anything that happened. It was too random and very cliche.

My recommendation, if you’ve not read this series go back to the beginning and read the first one. If you have read all the other books, well, I’d say save your money and find a new series as I wish I had done. I believe this one is flailing beyond rescue

Both better and worse than previous books. Unfortunately I think I’m just about at my limit with this author, there is still the occasional glimpse of her earlier brilliance but there is far too much repetition. Especially in the more intimate scenes, both in the wording and the frequency of. There was perhaps more emotional content in this book but again there is repetition when Merry has the same revelation again and again. Often using almost the same wording. I will probably still buy from this author but only when the price is low enough and with much less enthusiasm. I still have hope because LKH has shown such talent in her early work but I’m not sure how long it will last.
