Alien Captive’s Abduction (Alien Abduction #3)

The book was building up to a big climax and then just… stopped? There was literally no conclusion, no resolution to any of the big conflict. Literally the last 25% of the pages are, instead of the book, multiple previews for the authors\’ other books. Why should I read those when the book I was reading wasn\’t even complete? I can\’t remember any interesting details about the characters, the plot is mildly interesting but overall lackluster, and the writing is readable though nothing to write home about (..ha). Thankfully this one has far less grammar errors than the last, but to just deprive your readers of an actual conclusion so you can plug your other books is so insulting. I wasn\’t even expecting anything good when I bought this book and I\’m still disappointed.

Amber’s time on the telescope was magical. She watched the stars and planets and was in awe at the immensity of the universe. When her time was up, she ran across campus in the warm, drizzling rain. Her only friend, Erin, called out to her and they talked under a leafy tree. Erin was studying astrophysics and engineering with a hope of entering the space program. Amber loved the stars, but she knew the space program was out of her reach. Amber accepted a ride from Erin to the local flower shop where a man she met from Greece was working over the summer. He knew everything about flowers, and Amber was fascinated. Atropos would be returning home soon, so she wanted to enjoy his company when she could. She told him about a comet she was tracking and got the nerve to ask him if he wanted to join her in a week when it should be visible in the sky. He agreed, then asked if she would have dinner and a movie with him now. Things were going well! Asleep in her bed, a bright light woke her. She was floating upward toward the ceiling! Before she could wildly panic, she passed out. When she woke, there were two winged creatures in the room. One left and she ran past the other through the curtain, not realizing it was a balcony. She ran into the railing and fell over the side, just grasping the rail to stop her fall. The other creature pulled her up, and she looked into the eyes of Atropos! Amber’s all-consuming desire was to find a way home, to stop Flight Leader Actian’s plan involving humans. She explored the ship as she learned how to control the computer. And she found things they were keeping secret. How far can her skills and determination take her? For all their technology, the Lepidopterix know very little about their own civilization and future. Can Amber save humanity as well as save this alien culture? And does she realize there is more at stake than just what she wants – a war will be started if promises are not kept with other alien races! So much depends on the outcome here! But this is not nearly over! Wow, this book is a definite example of amazing world-building! Generations of Lepidopterix (think of butterflies and moths) are living lives in their spaceship with no cares or concerns other than the harvesting of humans for incubation hosts. They have only a loose connection to their own partially forgotten history and no means of self-procreation. The story line is mind-boggling, but so intriguing. The characters are multi-dimensional and keep the reader bouncing back and forth between admiration and annoyance. I definitely recommend this book. It’s so different from everything else I’ve ever read and makes the reader care deeply about a resolution to their crisis. Your emotions will be all over the place with this one, and I’m very sure you will not guess the ending – don’t skip a single page!

I truly feel like when authors combine their efforts to write a story together there needs to be more planning involved. As a reader you can feel and see the different authors’ speaking by the way they write. This was such an amazing concept with aliens that look like butterflies and moths desperate to keep their race alive that I was wanting to see the full end of it. It was drawn out too much with details to things that just didn’t really add to the overall story, like extra fluff to an amazing pillow. The relationship between Amber and Atropos was so cute and innocent that I would’ve loved to see more of that and less of the “decadent flowers and gardens”. Then of course when things actually start looking up and we get some resolutions to the impeding doom of the human race, the book just ends with a “bring it on.” Seriously?? Nothing was resolved. No answers to any of the questions that were being dragged through my mind during the entire story. And then of course it’s not like there’s a sequel involved. NOPE. We are just left with a cliche saying and our questions. So infuriating! Combining authors should never be a thing writers do. Each writer has their own technique and it seems as though they are holding each other down from their full potential because they don’t want to step on figurative toes. So my advice for the writers.. stick to your own stories. They are MUCH better that way.

The friend she made at the flower shop is really an alien, though she was unaware of that until she woke up in a cage on an alien ship. The winged, horned alien Atropos who she thought was her human friend on earth is really the brother to the ruling alien, Actian. It seems Actian is abducting human females to help re-populate their dwindling species. Actian plans on auctioning off the females to other alien species to help them to breed also. Atropos is gifted Amber by his brother, and he must do his best to make her understand that he cares for her and would like to keep her as his own. When Amber learns what is being done to her fellow humans, she convinces Atropos that it is wrong to kidnap these humans and try to turn them into breeders, the Alepidopterix don\’t see them as people, they treat them more like animals to be used as surrogates to breed only. Amber and Atropos put a plan into action to try and free the humans but it doesn\’t work out as they hoped. They did send some of the humans back to earth but they try to free more. There are other alien species there for the auction to buy their own humans to breed and that puts a tighter time limit to try and free the humans but complications arise. This story took a while for me to get into but I realized I needed all the info to set up the story. The world building ( really how large and complex the mother ship is) was perfect, I could see it as I read the descriptions. There were quite a few tension filled events and some risk of lost lives, but it worked out pretty well for our main characters for the most part. It does have an ending but I felt like there was more to come, maybe a continuation of the H and h and how they go on with a new life.
