All the Colors We Will See: Reflections on Barriers, Brokenness, and Finding Our Way audiobook free

I found All the Colors We Will See by author Patrice Gopo absolutely enthralling. A young literary gifted black woman of Jamaican parents, growing up in Alaska, exploring the world in a journey that would see her establish not only temporary residence but a bond of loving companionship in South Africa, before returning home to the comforts of familiar roots, provides the nexus for a series of essays reflecting the perception and insight of a resourceful, curious and adventurous soul. Like the inner abstractions given life in an Picasso rendering or the melodious jazz riffs of a Coltrane composition, the book weaves a tapestry of her multicultural experiences that are both illuminating inspiring and perceptive, exquisitely conveying moving, poignant images that stimulated my own sequestered experiences. Through her exceptional artistry the author gives us a panoramic view of the experiences that have shaped her world. This is a book I would unabashedly recommend and am confident will be the first of many offerings from an author destined to have a profound impact on the literary world. It is unquestionably a five star gem which will certainly be a part of my cherished book collection.

Audiobook All the Colors We Will See: Reflections on Barriers, Brokenness, and Finding Our Way by Patrice Gopo

Patrice Gopo is a beautiful and excellent writer. Her essays are thoughtful and well-crafted. The chapters could stand alone by themselves. The descriptions of food were especially well written and dripping with aroma. I enjoyed reading about her transition out of a career in engineering, and the complexities that change involved in her life.
I particularly was interested in the tensions regarding race and identity; in one story in an earlier chapter, the tension was palpable when the author was washing dishes (while she was overseas in someone’s house) and someone made an offhand comment. I could relate to some of the stories and the search for identity and belonging. An honest, relatable work.

Audio All the Colors We Will See: Reflections on Barriers, Brokenness, and Finding Our Way narrated by Patrice Gopo

Stunning. Gorgeous. Soul-stirring. There is something so important in reading and taking part in someones experience that is different from my own. I know I dont do it often enough, and thats something I want to change. I never want to assume that I know how someone feels. Patrice Gopo invites readers into her life with grace and eloquence. In sharing her story, I found both new viewpoints and that there are both nods of understanding and nods of acknowledgment, if that makes sense. You dont have to had shared this same experience in order to give it validity. A favorite read of 2019 for sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Patrice’s book “All the Colors We will See.” I love how she uses the medium of essays to reflect back on the moments and themes that weave together to form the beautiful tapestry of her life. These stories are uniquely hers, but there are themes that are universal. Themes of brokenness and hurt, love and redemption, learning who we are and learning our connection to our past. These essays caused me to pause and reflect on my own relationships and story and also how I can create change so people experience belonging and love. Each part of our lives forms who we are and who we are becoming and that is what Patrice so beautifully shows in her writing. I would highly recommend this book.
