I still enjoy the Bad Guys series a bit more than the Good Guys, but book 3 was a bit of a letdown I thought. The multiple quest lines gave it a chaotic, disconnected feel, and the repetition of information we already knew from the Good Guys (albeit with a slightly different flavor this time) also dragged it down a bit. Despite all this, I\’m still a fan. I like Nadya and want to see where that relationship might go, and the rest of the secondary characters are interesting in their own ways. I do miss the pits, but I understand why as an author he would want to pull away from that since it\’s already been done/told. I won\’t recap the plot because if you\’ve read books 1 & 2, you know where this is going. The academy was interesting as was the professor, but in book 4 i would like to see the story get back to basics, e.g., find out who is stealing children (is it the flying creature he caught a glimpse of?), get the new guild off the ground, and end the conflict with the Iron Silents. Honestly, I don\’t think the IS are adding much to the story any longer. They\’re like Wile E. Coyote, always trying and always failing. It just doesn\’t make sense, beyond finding out which nobles (because you know there are a few) that are supporting and backing them. Overall, I liked book 3, but i think book 4 will be the turning point for the series. Book 3 was a grab bag of different ideas, but our MC needs a steady plot line going forward, so it will be interesting to see if he has it. Also, there was no stealing which seems odd and a bit disrespectful for our rogue. 4/5*

The other series (The Good Guys) is about a year ahead of this one in time, and the author insists on using the same minor characters in each, so you literally already know everything that\’s going to happen in this series if you\’ve read the other one. If that wasn\’t bad enough, the protagonist of this one is basically living the exact same journey as the one in the other one. They both blah on and on about racism and slavery. They both befriend groups of kobolds. They both have minotaur buddies. They both have a friend/advisor who just crap talks them constantly. They both have a couple of women interested in them but neither of them will pull the trigger. They both have a hird sworn to them. They both meet gods in dreams and get powers from them. It\’s the same frigging story. I don\’t get what the point of this one is. It\’s the same story. Like the exact same story. If you had never read the other one, then this one is fine, but if you have then you don\’t need this one. On top of that, this book was clearly rushed, because it\’s full of typo\’s and missing words and tbh not much of anything happens except the hero runs some fetch quests for his friends and gets the reward of them still being his friends.

Audiobook Skull and Thrones by Eric Ugland

Always feels a little like riding a roller coaster, just after i get used to the first big drop we\’re already hitting a wicked turn and half way up the next hill. I really love reading these books, both the bad guys and good guys are loads of fun. I read through as fast as i can and am always disappointed that I have to wait for the next book, but I\’m thrilled with how fast Eric writes. Thank you for writing so fast! And thank you for sharing your amazing imagination. The magic, action, and characters that become like real people, tons of fun!

I\’m really glad I decided to RAF this author\’s books. This series and the other series are two sides of a coin with two flawed individuals with little knowledge of their situation. This series puts our small time thief who made himself a hero in the first book truly take his first bumbling steps toward greatness. While he may be clueless in many ways, Clyde is very much the decisive one when it counts.
