If you havent read any good SciFi lately, heres your chance to fix that. Jamie McFarlane spins a great Space Opera tale with believable, well developed, characters and every book will keep you turning page after page. If you enjoyed the classics of SciFi, like Heinlein, Assimov, and Herbert, you will enjoy The Privateer Tales stories. Fast passed and entertaining, these books never disappoint. You can start with Corsair Menace, it stands alone as a book, but after reading it you will want to go back and read the previous books and novellas in the series to flesh out the history of the characters you will come to love.

In this latest installment of the continuing saga, Liam, Tabby and the gang once again find themselves in a pickle. Or maybe it is an entire jar this time! Trying to do the right thing seems to always alienate one group or another. Or in this case, several groups at once. We pick back up where Blockade Runner left off. The battles with the Kroerak continue, and new adversaries join in the desire to exterminate the Loose Nuts. Even as the fast-paced action continues in the 12th installment of the series, Nick and Silver seem to be becoming a more domesticated part of the story in York and Petersburg Station respectively.

Each previous tale has left me chomping at the bit for another, and Corsair Menace is no different. I am already ready for Jamie to release the next installment! Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Corsair Menace. Then grab the rest of the series! Youll be glad you did!

Corsair Menace audiobook in series Privateer Tales

I’m always bummed when I get to the “but that’s another story” at the end. Reading these books on Kindle creates an opportunity for the ending to sneak up on you that printed books don’t have. Now I’m stuck waiting for the next book. I really enjoyed the story. This book brought the characters back to the type of situations as they’ve been in for the 11 previous novels. The plot ties into where they were at the end of the last story and sees them back in space (I’ll leave it for you to read). The characters are evolving, slowly. You might need a scorecard to keep up with all the minor characters and how they fit into the plot, but most of them will probably be passed by as the main characters move along.
I have to say, though, don’t start reading the series with this book. It will be confusing because so much of what is going on ties back to some point in the 11 previous novels or short stories. If have picked this up and read it out of sequence, at least you have something to read until the 13th book is out.

Audiobook Corsair Menace by Jamie McFarlane

I came across this series last winter when it was too cold to go outside… and I am so glad I did… Jamie M. is a fantastic writer. I have fallen out of my chair twice reading this last book because Jamie keeps us right on the edge of our seats…. this book runs along in HIGH GEAR from start to finish… there are NO slight changes in the story…. the story line is one Earth-shaking event after another…. and NOT to spoil the ending… but I got Whiplash ! Well Done AGAIN !

Audio Corsair Menace narrated by Mikael Naramore

I leave reviews on the last book available in a series. If I’ve gotten to that point and kept purchasing books you can bet it’s a good series. I prefer series books and this is one of the best available. Please don’t get bored writing these characters. This story isn’t done yet and this cast of well written characters has many more adventures! You have a gift for this genre. (Also, Rachael Aukes mailing list recommended the Privateer Series so please thank her for me!)

An interesting but often flawed series of stories about a group of teenagers who go from being entrepreneurs to the saviors of humanity. In the meantime, they become combat veterans. The greatest flaws come from the writer’s complete lack of military experience. The main character whines and cries for the slavers and murderers that he has to pull a trigger on even after they have killed people he knows and members of his family. Worst of all, the main character, as with a bad tv series, allows the bad guys to go free so that they can come back and try to kill him again. The writer also understands little or nothing about the psychological effects of sustained combat.
