Dark Peril

I must confess I am surprised at some of the negative reviews for this book, one reviewer complaining that a formerly strong female lead had been turned into an insecure, blubbery mess. That is NOT what I got out of this book at all! Feehan makes it clear that Solange’s insecurity stems from her unsureness with her feminine side. Having had to live so long as a strong, independent warrior just to survive, she didn’t know HOW to let down her guard and relax around a man. There have been quite a number of very strong female leads. Personally, I enjoyed a change of pace with an outwardly capable but inwardly vulnerable heroine. It was believable to me and I could relate. I enjoyed it more than if Solange had been real butch with no vulnerability, as she’s come across in earlier encounters.

I’ve read all of Feehan’s work and I love her writing style. I love the Carpathians but the Drake Sisters are my personal favorites. The paranormal world is entertaining and pure escapism so I have no quarrel with combining all the elements Feehan did in this book. What I did not like…even though I am an erotica author, myself…was the over abundance of pretend sex, going to have sex, thinking about sex, having sex, and the afterglow of sex. Over and over again, page after page of boring…albeit hot…sexual encounters between the two main characters. Over and over again, page after page of the female shivering at the touch of the male and him trying to ease her into the world of sex without sending her screaming for the nearest tree. Over and over again, page after page of what Feehan’s editor must have said would sell the book: sex.

I don’t buy Feehan’s novels to read about sex and the myriad ways it can be exhibited. I buy her novels to be entertained and mesmerized by the expert world and character building but also the book must have riveting action in it to hold my interest. Unfortunately, DARK PERIL had far too much sex and not enough…pardon the pun…meat. I found myself thumbing past the sex scenes to get to even a smidgen of action and, yes, real story line.

Yes, we know they are lifemates. Yes, we know they are lustful creatures. Yes, we know they are horny, but too much of a good thing is still too much. I hope Feehan returns to the action-filled story lines with the next Carpathian book. That’s really where her genius lies. Not in writing long, drawn-out, overdone sex scenes but telling a imogue love story with enough action to keep you riveted to your seat.

I cant even tell you how sad this book has made me. Besides Zacarias (of which I hear his book is quite bad as well) Dominic was my favorite character….

So lets begin by saying its been some years since ive caught up with a few of my past favorite series, Christine Feehan’s Dark series being one of them. Now when I left the series it was at Dark Possession and thanks to Amazon shipping this book was where I began reading again, happily so since ,like I have said, Dominic was a much loved favorite of mine and oh how sad the tale was.

I feel Mrs. Feehan is running out of steam with her writing. She goes in to overly long descriptions of things that state the same thing. Like when Dominic see’s colors which should be an experience but its more annoying to read about than anything since its basically all the same sentence “look at all the Purdy colors!” SO frustrating to read. It should be an experience for the reader interesting and diverse not the same repetitive thing. Over and over which I feel is the bulk of this story.

Honestly, I pretty much just skimmed the entire book. I s*** you not.

Which is horrid. No one should do that to a book but the story while could have been good was not because it was just drawn out and not in a good and interesting way.

I had hoped this author would begin to be more diverse in her writing when it came to the “love making” scenes but sadly its the same mundane stuff time and again. She needs to branch out and write Hot and steamy because her style is now becoming repetitive and boring. Previous to reading this book I had thought she had managed to start opening doors to hot and steamy, getting in the right direction, I had thought she was going to open the doorway but no she slammed it shut here.

How I just wish this author would read her earlier works and realize what people wanted. A good story but with spicy sex and a satisfying ending.

I really am afraid to read Dark Predator because frankly all the negative reviews about it make me think it’ll be my most hated book yet.

What a beautiful love story this one was…..both had accepted their fate of sacrificing themselves for their people. Dominic had long given up hope of ever having a lifemate of his own and ingests vampire blood so they would think he had turned and give him the information needed to help the carpathians …Solange also coming to the end of her own battle to keep the jagua women safe is on borrowed time now that her father knows she still exists and has the powerful bloodline he wants …..it is a bittersweet moment for Dominic when he finds Solange and thinks he has no chance of claiming her due to the contaminated blood….fortunately though Solange has royal blood which in fact can fight the vampire blood and in time realise that her blood is much more……I loved this story….

I’ve always been a fan of Feehan and her Dark Series and when I accidentally bought the book after this one but needed to read this one to understand a part in the next one, I was very happy to find this and able to be shipped so quickly. I’m about half way through now and enjoying it immensely.
