I absolutely loved Quan. I wanted to climb into this book and rescue him. He reminded me of why I got a degree in elementary education. I wanted to save the Quans of the world. This story was realistic in the most heartbreaking way. I was hoping for a happy ending, but I prepared myself to be let down. So many of our boys don’t get happy endings. I felt myself holding my breath the closer I got to the end of this book. I didn’t want to put it down. My only disappointment was that I didn’t re-read Dear Martin before I read this. I would’ve loved to have that story fresh in my mind to keep up with the connections. I would highly recommend this to any teenage Black boys. It will make them feel seen in a way that most books overlook.

This book was just as good as Dear Martin! What I really loved was Nic Stone\’s style of writing. The way this is written pushes the story forward and keeps me wanting to read more! This story talks about how messed up the justice system is especially when it comes to young black men. Stone wrote not only what was happening in the present, but more background on Quan and his home life and how he ended up where he was. I highly recommend both Dear Martin and Dear Justyce!!

Audiobook Dear Justyce (Dear Martin #2) by Nic Stone

Wow, I thought that Dear Martin was going to be the best book I read this year until Dear Justyce came out. I can\’t tell you how many times I had to fight back tears learning more about Quan\’s backstory and how even though Justyce and him came from the same background, Quan ended up on an entirely different path. This novel blows me away. Nic Stone is an incredible author and I look forward to sharing this with my class.

Fiction? Hardly. Walk into the cell with Quan, experience the panic, sweat, paralysis, then breathe. No way you can read this gem and and not be moved. If you care about youth of color, read Dear Justyce then get to work. Young people, read and take note. You matter.

I really enjoyed reading Quan\’s story. I loved the friendship in the book. I think it definitely teaches a lot of important things like friendship and loyalty. It also shows how broken our justice system really is. I highly reccomend Dear Justyce.
