The man is just happy and contented with whatever he has in his life and free time is what he relishes the most. While walking on a deserted road he gets a lift from a girl who needed help from a man like Jack Reacher.

While driving through the west the girl tells Jack all about her past and her troubled family.As Jack was free he thought listening to the tale was a good way of spending the time. The story grew more and more terrible, Jack at the end of the story and journey has finally committed to helping this woman even if it costs him his life.
Tripwire and Running Blind were accidental missions in which Jack was thrown; the fifth book narrated by Dick Hill portrays the first mission which Jack takes by himself. Helping people has been Jack’s primary goal in life and when he gets the time to serve humanity he does not say no to it. Carmen develops some association with Jack during the story but when it comes to Jack the relations are always temporary.
