Empire of Storms

I\’ve noticed trends in a lot of the YA scifi books that I\’ve read, particularly those with a strong female lead, and this series follows all of them. It has the usual love stories, and the usual rise from the lower class, and a strong female protagonist – which to be clear, I always enjoy, AND, this book still managed to give you a plot line to love, even though you\’ve kind of heard it all before. This particular book shows how much Aelin Galathynius has grown and how strong she truly is. This book was extremely sexual, more so than any of the books prior, and I would not recommend it for the 11-13 age group. There were many sex scenes and sexual conversation and situations, so I think parents should use their own judgement. Loved the story, great plot with great characters. However, it seemed like the author thought she needed wildly graphic sex scenes (this also in her other book series Court of Mist and Fury) to create intimacy between characters. Totally unnecessary, especially for a young adult novel. Something I would never recommend for the young and impressionable. 13 people found this helpful

The narration was solid even though I\’m not really a fan of Evans voice, she always does great work. I find the story predictable and I feel that the writer doesn\’t really understand cruelty. what she paints as cruel just feels generic to me. I think the story would have been better served if she would have focused more on the story and catered less to the sex appeal of the audience. not that I mind the fun bits of course but it overshadows the story to me. 7 people found this helpful

Something changed in this book,(possible spoiler ahead). !!!!!!!!Semi spoiler Alert!!!!!!!! Couple things bothered me, because they weren\’t like the first few books a all. 1) So for some reason this book \”gods damn\” as everyone\’s emphasis words no matter the situation which was kind of annoying. 2) Everyone is having sex, this book has several very descriptive sex scenes… sure people messed around before and the second book I believe had some . But this book is ridiculous. Overall I\’d probably give it 3 1/2 stars, but since I can\’t , I\’ll give it 4, since these are basically my problems. Lol Just seems like a YA book, but this is not. I loved the story but cringed through all of the detailed sex scenes and explosion of explitives. Aelin\’s toes curl a lot, and everybody is \”incarnate\”. (I dont know if that name is spelled right. Im more of an audio listener.) I hope Sarah tones down the adult content in her next books, or I wont be buying any more copies in the throne of glass series for my kids to stumble over. 27 people found this helpful
