I’ve read Pursuit of the Bold and Fury of the Bold by Jamie McFarlane. I’ve also read all the other books by this author and have enjoyed them immensely!

The new trilogy, the Bold series, for me, are lacking something. Or maybe they’re adding something.. the bugs and little lizard aliens. All the previous stories have had aliens, mostly human types, but some assorted aliens that were mostly humanoids.

When these stories include the long lost race of mini-lizards and the Kroeraks (big beetles) things just seemed to slow down and get a bit confusing for me. These just didn’t loosen my nuts, if you know what I mean.

The stories hinge on the coming fight with the invading beetles. The Loose Nuts crowd frantically search for ways to get their new starship space worthy then blast off to wherever in order to find a lost civilization of mini lizards who have a mythical weapon that will destroy the beetles – the Kroerak.

This is the basis for the two books of the trilogy. Naturally, there are quite a few obstacles thrown in their way that have to be overcome in order to succeed.

Like all of McFarlane’s stories, these books are very well written, the characters are known to readers of this author and he adds a couple of new bodies that should have worn red shirts. The Lizard characters with unpronouncable names are well formed and turn out to be more than they seem at first.

As with most trilogies, the first and second books, Pursuit and Fury, end with the reader wanting more and with McFarlane, we know he’ll deliver. As I said earlier, for me these Bold stories just seem like something’s lacking. They just haven’t held my interest like all the previous books.

If you’re a fan of McFarlane, please don’t let my take on these stories prevent you from reading them. Maybe I’m just going through a phase where my tastes demand something more attention-grabbing. I didn’t say I don’t like them, just that they move slower than I’ve grown accustomed to with this author. My bad!

Fury of the Bold audiobook in series Privateer Tales

The second book in the Bold thread of McFarlane’s Privateer Tales is a solid hit with me. I’ve been reading this series of books since I found him in 2014 and the care he gives each of his stories make them a very satisfying experience, time after time. I like that his books are a bit longer than many others and how he weaves such rich story tapestry for us. Few authors seem to develop their characters into real people that grow, evolve, and mature. He gives them time to think, suffer, heal and learn. I really enjoy the ensemble cast that Jamie has created for us and how these characters interact inside of a strong and compelling story arc. This addition gives detail and depth to Marny, a character that I really enjoyed and it is great to spend more time with her. The book stands by itself nicely, but I was ready to dive into Judgment, but as Jamie tells us, that’s another story entirely.

Audiobook Fury of the Bold by Jamie McFarlane

Well written, fast paced, page turner. In fact it’s almost *too* fast. The ships get larger or faster or more dangerous. The enemy develops beyond all original proportions. Now the head bad guy is a mind-controlling telepathic monster.

A major changing of political stances as “Loose Nuts” is drawn into the Abasi Empire as “House Bold ” Liam & Tabitha have become hosts for the mysterious sentient crystal called “Iskstar”

Audio Fury of the Bold narrated by Mikael Naramore

An action packed yarn guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Once I stated reading this tale, I could NOT put it down until I got to the last page…and Now I am breathlessly awaiting the next book as this ended in a cliffhanger. The Author spins an incredible series of events leading down a path to either salvation for humanity or possibly to humanities doom…but we won’t find out until the next book comes out. HURRY UP JAMIE…!!!

I picked up Fury of the Bold, book #14 in the Privateer Tales series, and was thrilled with it! The author, Jamie McFarlane, has written another exciting book. The characters are well developed, the plotlines keep your attention, the fast-paced story keeps you turning pages as fast as you can read, and when its finished you are left wanting more! You could pick up any of the 14 books and read it as a stand-alone story, but starting with book 1 will provide you with hours of entertainment. If you are a fan of space-opera Sci-Fi like I am, you will enjoy every book in the series, especially Fury of the Bold!
