Fantastic follow up to Broken Compass. If you’re new to this author, it’s best to read the Supernatural Prison trilogy first. This description might call Magical Compass book 2, but it’s really book #5 of this world. I can’t imagine trying to pick up Broken Compass as the first book. While Jaymin Eve does a decent job of recapping, there’s just so much complexity in her novels that I think you’d still be missing out on a lot.

Characters are consistent with the previous novels, though we get more depth in Tyson’s character b/c it’s his story. We get to see the differences between him and his brothers. There’s growth and development in the characters, but it’s really more of a revelation of what’s been happening since the first Supernatural Prison novel. This novel picks up 2 months after the end of Broken Compass, and spans perhaps 3 days. With trips to Faerie where time moves differently, it’s hard to tell, and they only sleep and eat once. So not a whole lot of character development between beginning of this book and the end.

The plot is characteristic of Jaymin Eve’s work. There’s a crisis (immediate in this novel) which leads to a “save the world” issue and a lot of action sequences. The Compass brothers even comment on how often they’ve had to “save the world” recently. There’re some crazy magic twists and revelations and then a HEA of sorts. We know there’s another novel to follow this, so there will be more drama and action in the next novel.

The “romance” is full-strength from the first page, but the graphic sex scene isn’t until the end. so easy to skip it and get to the final few moments of the novel.

The pace is fast, and sometimes the energy/suspense is faster than the narration can handle. What I mean by that is there’s some risk of death scene and some crucial aspect or dialogue that I read and immediately need an answer to, but the narration has to give me other details first and i want to skim to get to the answer, thereby missing other important information. Perhaps there’s nothing wrong with the narration and I’m just a poor suspense reader, spoiled forever by the instant visual gratification of movies and tv.

Overall a great read! Definitely looking forward to the next novel.

Of all of the fantasy worlds that I have traveled through, this world is my favorite. This book is the second spin off from the Supernatural Prison series and features Tyson Compass and Grace Carter. The story alternates between their points of view. It is written in Jaymins superb style and as another reader said I felt like I had come home. If you are a Jaymin Eve fan, you will understand. I really loved that Grace was a huge part of this story. I felt that this was more her story than Tysons but that was totally OK by me. I wouldnt read this as a stand-alone story. You would be doing yourselves a disservice. This story starts with Tysons need to find Grace, who has been missing for quite some time. As the story unfolds, we learn more about Grace and who (or what she really is). The story also continues to develop the quads newly discovered hybrid nature. I must say that this part of the story surprised me in a very pleasant way. The race to save Louis is still on, although this story line is more of a background arc. Louiss story comes out in December, I hope! Well done Jaymin Eve.

Audiobook Magical Compass (Supernatural Prison Story #2) by Jaymin Eve

Well this story definitely wasn’t what I was expecting – nope, not at all – and I mean that in a good way! Wow! Magical Compass is the second book in the Magical Compass series and focuses on Tyson and Grace’s story. Now, don’t get me wrong – I liked Grace in the other books but I didn’t get enough of her to really feel like I knew her, so I didn’t love her like I love Mischa and Jessa. Now that I read her story I feel more of a connection to Grace then I do with Mischa – she is the perfect mate to Tyson! From the beginning of the book to the very end you are taken into a story with so many twists and turns it will make your head spin (in a good way). I love the how the book flowed, the pace was fast but not rushed – I felt it took you where you needed to be at the right time. I also loved how you really got to know Tyson – I mean really go to know him – the softer side of the bad mama jama!

All in all you are just going to love this story and, like me, wait “patiently” for the next story to come out! Well done Jaymin – well done!

Audio Magical Compass (Supernatural Prison Story #2) narrated by Rachel Rauch Will M. Watt

I absolutely loved this story!! It was fantastic to jump back into this world and connect with these characters again. I love the way that Jaymin Eve has made this world. We are dealing with a different main enemy this time, though they have been mentioned in previous stories. She does such a great job created the different pieces of this world and giving us enough information without overwhelming the reader. I dont ever want to leave this series!! It is soo good and there is always something new in every book. The tales are woven very well and once I start I dont want to leave and Im not going ready for the book to be over. I love the Compasss and the pack that they have created! Super excited for the next story!!

I have enjoyed every book that Jaymin writes, whether by herself or with other authors. She has an incredible story telling ability.
Tyson’s story is very creative and heart wrenching. I really like how it still pulls our other characters in. Even though this was written from Grace and Tyson’s view point, it still gave us insight into the rest of the ‘packs’ lives.
Grace is stronger than she was in the dragon marked books. Her story is a hard one, but very well developed. Tyson is the protective loving mate that seems to run strong in the compass boys.
As for how great this series and the spin-off’s are, well it is very well developed and the character building and development is amazing. How the author can create these imaginative worlds and show it through writing is an amazing feat. Great job Jaymine Eve.
