Magician’s Gambit

I’m re-reading this series as it’s finally come available on Kindle for me. Apparently there are issues with it coming and going. I believe only the first series is available on kindle currently, but not the second or prequels.

I’ve pretty much covered in my earlier reviews that this isn’t going to be the series with twists around every corner, but it’s refreshingly upfront about it from book one. It’s a really fun read. It impresses me the amount of foreshadowing done in this series, with things done in the first book coming around and popping up in later books.

I also really enjoy the feel of history to the world. You constantly run into things that make the characters seem more real. Bits of past history that are mentioned, or having an issue with someone about something that happened before the series started. It all contributes to a feel of realizm.

Yes, there is a little cheesy-ness to it, but that’s expected. It’s an older series and things that were fresher when it was written have been played out over and over since then. At one point, a ‘yo mama’ joke was fresh and new and funny. This series holds up much better than that, though. It’s a really fun read and this book finally takes you into enemy territory and resolves some issues that have been hanging out there since early in the series.

If you want a fun, classic read, I’d recommend this book.

So thrilled to see my old favorites finally released on Kindle. As I get older, my eyesight isn’t as sharp, and I also like to read in bed without disturbing my husband; the Kindle’s adjustable text and back-lighting solve both problems.

The series itself, of which this is the 3rd book, is above all else, FUN. It’s not the high literary prose of Tolkien, or the no-holds-barred sex and death of Martin, but it’s a GOOD story.

Formulaic? Yes. Derivative? Isn’t everything? What you’ll find here are characters to love, quotes to remember, richly developed lands with customs and history, some politics, some magic, and some classic good vs. evil.

It’s not a masterpiece, but it doesn’t try to be one, either.

Thank you. Mr. Eddings “BELGARIAD SERIES” is OUTSTANDING. I am enthusiastically waiting for the next Book. Anyone who has not yet read his stories is missing an impressive array of Fascinating READING. Others will want to read them again. PLEASE Put Them All In KINDLE!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading the books in this series for over 30 years now, and am thrilled that the Kindle version I have eagerly waited for has finally been released! People have posted many reviews of the novels, so I’ll just make notes about the Kindle version. There were a few mistakes not caught in editing, but Amazon usually updates their books as they find errors, so that is just a minor inconvenience.
Overall, I’m extremely happy to finally have this for my Kindle!

This is the 3rd book in one of my all time favorite series. I first read it 30 years ago and have re-read it at least once a year since then. I see I have that in common with a lot of the other reviewers. To me, that is the hallmark of a great vs a good book…that you can read it again and again with the same pleasure you experienced the first time. This series is one of the great ones. If you haven’t had the delight of reading it I highly recommend you do so. I envy you being able to experience it for the first time. Warning though..it is addictive. But, with these books, then the second series the Mallorean, Belgarath the Sorceror and Polgara the Sorceress there is plenty of material to indulge in.
