Dessel was not a bad person from the beginning apparently, from the inside he always had that lust for power that can corrupt anyone. As a boy during his training at the Sith academy, he wanted more from his life.
His master also saw in him the potential to become the ultimate weapon against the Jedi order. Dessel’s missions started with simple mineral digging activity which later leads him into deeper trouble, he quickly found himself being dragged into the center of a big war.

Having a lust for power the boy didn’t deny this opportunity and quickly enhanced his skills of warfare. At the academy, he started learning the dark art without fear of threat which warns a being about destruction in the process. One learning the dark art has to give himself completely to darkness which can destroy him too if he is not strong enough but Dessel is committed to establishing his stronghold on the galaxy. Drew Karpyshyn here tells the audience how the simple boy named Dessel turned into the evil now called Darth Bane.
It is not the first time we have listened to the rise of a Sith. Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan and Dynasty of Evil had such information in it but those villains were not so much dark. Bane goes to the last extreme to fulfill the thirst present in his heart. Corrosive voice is given to Bane by Jonathan Davis which is ample to describe the stone-hearted devil which he turns to after embracing darkness fully and surviving. His master kneels in front of him after he changes from Dessel to Bane.
