The Princess Will Save You

Heard this was a gender-swapped version of The Princess Bride and I one-clicked so fast… but oh, rarely have I been so disappointed. The Princess Bride is one of my favorite books. Its funny. Its light-hearted. It sparkles with humor and adventure and romance. By contrast, this is a dark and dreary slog where horrific things keep happening, and there is unrelenting misery and death. Even the romance falls flat; were told that Amarande and the stable boy enjoy True Love, but the characters are flat and lifeless and their attraction is bland and unconvincing. Theres a cliffhanger ending and a sequel coming in the summer, but I dont care. Not for me.

First off, love the Princess Bride references! Instead of As you wish its Always, the pirates, the Prince and his sidekick, the stable boy and the princess… I mean if you are looking for a book thats scene for scene the same, then dont read this! Sarah Henning puts her own little twist to it and I LOVED it! But now Im mad that I dont already own the sequel for I shall perish from curiosity until payday once more! But its an AMAZING world and a great twist on a classic! I own the hard cover copy and the Audible copy. The reader for the audiobook was easy to listen to and understand. I always appreciate a decent reading voice!

That epilogue was… mind blowing! I\’d decided upon a four star review right until that. It changes everything!! I can\’t wait until the next book because I simply need to see how everything comes together. I liked Ama but wished she was more multifaceted. We saw more emotion and insight from Luca. And it\’s maybe the differences between a heir and a servant. This was one long and seemingly unending journey. Poor Luca kept getting injured. I see bits and pieces of The Princess Bride scattered here and there and that is highly appealing. I wasn\’t sure whom to trust and had so many theories running through my mind. I\’ve got even more questions now. I also have a huge smirk on my face that doesn\’t seem to want to leave. This is captivating and will draw you in. What a brilliant series starter!!

I devoured this book. I loved Amarande\’s character… She is so strong and cunning. The world building and characters are stunning and amazingly done. If you haven\’t read this book yet, you need to.
