I absolutely loved the first book of this series as well as the movies depiction of it. I was super excited to see the author had written a sequel. From the beginning of the book I disliked the depiction of Andy as a weak, people pleasing girl still unable to stick up for herself or speak her mind, suffering nightmares and flashbacks a Decade after quitting work for Miranda Priestley.
Even though the beginning of the sequel finds Andrea a successful magazine founder and editor still living in NYC, paired up with former nemesis and runway assistant Emily as her new BFF and business partner, about to marry a handsome man from a prestigious and wealthy NYC family. Minutes prior to their wedding she discovers a letter written to her fiance from his mother pleading him to rethink his decision to marry Andrea and expressing her dislike of the poor girl. This discovery nearly causes her to call of the whole wedding and questions her and Max’s relationship and love. Even though Max is portrayed as a lovable and wonderful supportive partner. Andy soon discovers she is over 3 months pregnant with a daughter and after finally confronting Max about his mom’s letter they move past everything and prepare for the birth of their child. It seems like the author was trying to get the reader and Andy to dislike or at least distrust max the entire novel. I however wanted to like him and didn’t like the reintroduction of Andy’s ex boyfriend and first love, Alex. Alex dumped her unceremoniously at the end of the first novel right after she quit working for Miranda. After a dilemma and struggle between Andy and her business partner over whether to sell their magazine to Miranda’s publishing company, Max (an investor and majority owner of the magazine) sides with Emily (and Miranda) and betrays her by signing away the magazine. She never looks back divorcing him and not giving us any insight into the aftermath, simply jumping forward one year later..
Just overall not my idea of a happy ending. Don’t know why she had to end up with Alex even though prior to the dilemma to sell their magazine to Miranda, seemed like max and Andy had a wonderful relationship and were good parents and partners. Andy a Decade later seemed weaker and more distraught then twenty year old fashion misfit struggling in New York city. Was not at all as well written or funny as the first book and didn’t seem like the authors heart was in this sequel because I have read many of her other books and none of them are as pointless as this book is…pointless story lines and character developments and overall disappointing.

Revenge Wears Prada audiobook in series The Devil Wears Prada
There’s no revenge in the book as suggested by the title. The author apparently forgot Jill’s first son is named Isaac not Josh or Jonah, there should have been nearly a chapter on Andy’s stress and major fashion details on what she wore to Miranda’s dinner, details about the outcome of the sale of the magazine – surely Miranda threw a fit about losing Andy as she hates losing… Ending totally predictable and written LAZILY without detail. Highly disappointing.

Audiobook Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
I loved the first novel, and I love the second just as much. I love seeing how Andy has grown in the last ten years, and while I could relate to her (though not the horrible boss) ten years ago, now I can relate to her fledgling family and changed priorities. I picked this up for book club as a light summer read, and I’m so glad we selected it! Now that said, Andy is NOT my favorite character ever — she seems to spend a lot of time moaning and groaning and not accomplishing much…. but still, I enjoy Lauren’s writing, and will look at more of her books.

Audio Revenge Wears Prada narrated by Megan Hilty
I thought this was a very creative way to continue one of my favorite stories. While I could tell from the middle of the book that I probably wasn’t going to like the ending, Weisberger found a way to sort of compensate for a certain blow (no spoilers).
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first book and wants to know what happens next. And, honestly, if Weisberger wanted to write a third book (hint hint)I would definitely pick up a copy!

I rarely read “fluffy” novels because good ones (to me anyway) are hard to come by. The Devil Wears Prada was a fun read. I decided to read Revenge because the thought of a more mature, savy Andy dealing with Miranda sounded like fun. I imagined the sequel would be some years later. Probably not as many as 10, but no real problem here. I hoped Andy and Emily were friends…. check! And I’d hoped the sequel (like the first book) was more about some type of venture and less about a boyfriend/husband…. This part was a disaster in my opinion. It was all over the place and didn’t fit the book. And MOST importantly I’d hoped the main plot of the sequel was to see Andy and Miranda more as equals now, at least in some measure — income, success, confidence, business savy, etc. I hoped the plot would center around what the title actually implies… Revenge!! How cool if in the sequel Andy found herself involved in a business venture with Miranda. And now, 10 years later, Andy is at a much different/better place in her life and is actually able to go toe-to-toe with Miranda. Wouldn’t that be fun? Instead we got an Andy who was a cowering, fearful, nit whenever Miranda was around. And in their “scenes” together, the author never even made it possible to go another way. It was back to 10 years ago with Andy being a timid yes-girl.
I figured the predictability of the sequel would be that Andy, in her success, had turned out to be a little too much like Miranda. That was her inner struggle. She goes head to head with Miranda in some sort of venture and while she wins the battle she realizes it’s ultimately not that battle that is important but the personal one. She figures out who she is and wins the personal battle too. In the end she has it all because she’s more of a human being than Miranda. Of course Miranda still comes out smelling like a rose too. Thats only fitting.
Even if my ideas weren’t fulfilled, I did at least expect some fun. There was no fun, no joy, nothing interesting. Really, the more I think about it the more I realize it was just blaagghh! How can you screw something up so totally? Aren’t there editors for this kind of thing?
