Spell Bound is the final book in the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins and boy was it a doozy. The story picks up right where we left off in Demonglass, with Sophie trying to find her way to her mother.

Sophie is still the smartass that I absolutely love, after everything she has been though it has made her stronger and a little wiser. She still funny, witty and have the some of the best lines I have ever read. Soph has gone through some majorly bad s*** and the worst is nowhere near over. In Spell Bound Sophie is going to go through a lot more horrible stuff before she get her, I’m not going to say happily ever after because at the end of all the s*** that she and everyone else goes through I don’t think that an happily ever is going to possible, but they get a decent ending.

Sophie ends up with the Brannicks and Cal, her dad and Archer are alive and they all team up to help stop Lara Cansoff’s evil plan. The plot was excellent and everything flowed nicely and this book wrapped everything up.

Overall

Spell Bound had all sorts of supernatural creatures (of course), magic, quests, an truly evil plot, friends are made, there were family revelations and a death that was truly heartbreaking. So as you can imagine, I think Spell Bound was a really good read. I laughed (Sophie), cried, couldn’t wait to see what happened next and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I read this book in half a day! The pacing was lightning fast. I didn’t want to leave Sophie’s world. I loved this book and couldn’t wait to find out how things ended; but then it was over and I was sad to leave Sophie and Archer and Jenna behind. The writing was so smooth–nothing pulled me out of the story for a single second.

This was a great ending to the trilogy. I was so emotionally invested in the characters that I gasped and teared up a few times. I love Sophie and Jenna. They are true friends and the way they come through for each other is wonderful. Archer and Cal were both great characters and it was hard to decide who I wanted Sophie to be with. The magic and the world were really cool and I loved how all the threads of the family history came together. The ending was incredibly satisfying. I kinda want to reread the entire trilogy again and savor it one more time.

Audiobook Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) by Rachel Hawkins

Spellbound is the third and final installment in Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall series, and it definitely establishes love/hate feelings in me. On the love side, the writing is solid, and the snarkiness of the characters creates a fun atmosphere, even in times of danger.

The story picks up where Demonglass left off. We finally learn the fate of Sophie and, eventually, the others after the explosion that rocked Thorn Abbey. One thing that Hawkins does with adept skill is create characters people are invested in. I feel Sophie’s pain as she waits for news of her friends and family. In fact, I worried along with her. The characters are richly drawn and entertaining. The addition of the Brannicks and Torin added a new dimension to Sophie’s story that deserves to be explored more.

The plot lines were interesting and always kept me guessing. The entire Hex Hall series has a feeling of motion. The pace moves from one situation to the next with little time to take a breath. The story has a few quiet moments that add depth and gravity to the final chapters of the book.

However, there is one negative. Without spoiling anything, one character did not get the ending he deserved, at least in my opinion. As a reader, it is difficult to invest in characters and then feel cheated by their ending. When something major happens to a character, there needs to be some importance for it or reasoning behind it. When that explanation is lacking, it is difficult to accept the character’s fate. This was the one thing in the book that didn’t work for me.

Overall, Hex Hall is an entertaining series with strong characters and fantastic humor. If you like snarky paranormals with a diverse cast of characters, this series is for you.

Audio Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) narrated by Cris Dukehart

I really like this series, there were a few parts that I was a little disappointed with but the overall storyline was good. I think there should have been more scenes with Cal, I no he loved her but it was like he would just randomly pop in, he wasn’t really around enough. I wasn’t a huge fan of the underworld scene, there could have alot more to that, alot of other books that I hav read there always seems to be a few issues getting in and out of hell and yet they just walked in also once in hell there is usually sometime major that happens or a few fight scenes and there was none of that so yea I was disappointed. and why do the parents always stay behind while they send their kids out to save the world?

I did like how it was written it was a good change to what I usually read and I thought it was funny so I would recommend it

Loved this series of books. It had the perfect mix of what makes for a cracking series. A great plotline that you didn’t see coming, a likeable heroine who is fierce and strong but also very human with her sarcasm and her moments of self-doubt. A brooding and gorgeous male love interest and then some great of characters that are added to the mix. I cried towards the end of this book, the scene at the end with Elodie and Cal was particularly moving and sweet and it ended on a perfect happy ever after. Loved it. A talented author who delivered great dialogue and characters with great world building skills. Download this series now, you’ll love it!
