Revan comes up as a controversial figure in almost all of the parts; even the fans cannot guess whether Drew Karpyshyn wanted to portray him as a hero or a villain. There was a time when he was praised as one of the noble ones and his seat among the group of heroes.
Then the tide of time turned and the elite group started mocking him as a traitor who has backstabbed everyone. Once a Jedi, Revan left his home planet to confront the dark side and destroy it forever.
But his plans didn’t prove fruitful; rather the dark side trapped him in the darkness of vengeance. Instead of fighting against the evil side, he started to fight with them against his old friends.
STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: REVAN audiobook
This second task of destroying the Republic also failed and Revan was arrested by the Council. Later because of his earlier good deeds he was not given capital punishment but the Council took from him the one thing he treasured the most i.e his memory. In Marc Thompson’s narration, we see in Revan a broken man who apparently has no memories of the past but the old visions still threaten him.
He still knows something which can change the whole scene of the galaxy. Path of Destruction and Rule of Two are close in stature to this part of the Star Wars series. The miserable condition of the hero i.e Revan still makes it more sensational. The mystery of the secret which lies in Revan’s brain makes us hold our breath at the climax of the novel. Even the ending of this novel cannot justify whether Revan was a heroic Jedi or a villain with no memory of the past.
