4 Stars Sweet, Sexy and Intriguing

This was my first read in this series and by this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was fast paced and yet fairly low on angst and drama. I would consider this an easy read:)

I really loved the H but the h was just ok for me. I truly HATE, and I mean despise when an author has the h describing her past self in a not so great fashion. I don’t want to read about my h feeling “down” about herself and describing her chubby self in high school. Nope, call me vain, call me snotty, call me harsh BUT I am not into anything with BBW and when a character starts talking down about herself and describing herself and that description is less than appealing for me personally I find it a turn-off and I just can’t get negative visions out of my head. I know, I know I sound harsh BUT that’s me and I read for escaping reality and yes in my reality I want to have good looking to hot characters in my story and most especially in my head. Sorry for the rant!!!!!!

All in all, I enjoyed this and will definitely check out another book by this author in the future.

A few months ago Athena Manikas thought she met the perfect man, but when he found out she was a virgin he panicked and broke up with her. Athena would be happy to never see Quinn Brody again so she’s shocked when it turns out he works for Red Stone Security where she’s just started her new job. Being around Quinn again is bringing back all of Athena’s feelings and the attraction is still burning bright between them but she’s not sure she can trust him with her heart again. Quinn knows he messed up when he left Athena because he hasn’t been able to think of anyone else since and now that they’re working together he’s putting everything toward winning Athena back.

Sworn to Protect was really great and I loved both Athena and Quinn who have a rocky start but just can’t stay away from each other. I’m glad that Athena doesn’t give in right away when Quinn asks her out again and instead she takes some time to make sure she won’t be hurt again. The Red Stone books are typically pretty short so the characters fall in love quickly but I enjoyed seeing a bit more reticence on Athena’s part. Some of this stems from her insecurities over her weight which kept her from dating through high school and early college. She’s a confident woman now but she can’t help feeling a little nervous with the man who could possibly break her heart.

Quinn made a stupid mistake two months ago when he left Athena but I can’t really hold it against him because he’s just so perfect. He’s protective, confident, and respectful of Athena though he has a few possessive moments where he has to rein himself in. Quinn’s perfection is pretty much set in the Prologue when he helps a woman leave her abusive husband, a fellow police officer. Of course, things are thrown a bit off course when that woman’s husband gets out of jail and comes after them looking for revenge. This is where Katie Reus’s usual flair for suspense comes in and the story moves along quickly as Quinn and Athena travel to Vegas for a tradeshow. I especially enjoyed getting to see Iris again, an ex-Red Stone bodyguard who married and relocated to The Serafina casino, so it was a nice little crossover.

Possible Triggers: References to spousal abuse (side character)

Audiobook Sworn to Protect (Red Stone Security #11) by Katie Reus

I can always count on Katie Reus’ books to be well written and entertaining. This latest addition to the Red Stone series is a great example of her romantic suspense. The characters are likable, the villain is despicable, the pacing is good, the romance is hot and the H has a special skill set, which saves the day. I love that Reus writes strong females that are secure, confident and don’t emasculate the male in their life in their quest to be independent. (Thank you for that.)

Quinn has been with Red Stone since leaving the police department six years earlier. Athena, an event planner, just started there to coordinate large events with RS security. They dated in the past, until he panicked and ended it two months earlier. White, a former policeman Quinn helped send to prison is out on parole and looking for revenge. He blamesQuinnfor everything that has gone wrong in his life, and he thinks the best way to hurt Quinn is to take someone from him. After following him to lunch, he has his target, because Quinn took Athena to out to celebrate her first day at work. And even though there were no outward signs of affection, it is clear to White that the woman means something to Quinn. So the countdown begins.

Audio Sworn to Protect (Red Stone Security #11) narrated by Sophie Eastlake

Once again, Ms Reus gives us another non-stop action packed Red Stone Security story.
This time its Quinn Brody who is our alpha hero. He is a former military man, as well as former Miami PD. He left the PD after he helped a battered woman, who was the wife of another policeman. The husband was sent to jail and now , six years after, he is out of jail and out for revenge.
Athena Manikas , our strong female character, had a short relationship with Quinn until he cut her off when he found out she was a virgin.
Now that she is working for Red Stone Security, a relationship begins, but not without a great deal of danger following them.
The author gives us a plot filled with suspense, bad guys, hunky ones, romance and hot sex.
Another winner in this series.
I must add that the narrator of the audible, Ms Sophie Eastlake, does an excellent performance and brings the story to life.
I was gifted this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This was quite a shortish steady paced read, beginning with Quinn Brody, a cop in the Miami PD, rescuing a woman from an abusive husband, that also happens to be a cop and his team leader.
6yrs on, Quinn works for Red Stone Security, where, at a colleague’s house party he meets Athena Manikas. The two, however, aren’t strangers. They’d dated months before but he’d run scared. Now though, he realizes his mistake and his ever growing attraction to her but unfortunately his past has come back to haunt him and endanger her.
Not bad, nothing dynamic, but readable. One good sex scene, a bad guy, but nothing in great detail. Although there’s plenty of characters from other books, this can quite easily be read as a standalone. A full book with hea.
