Does the story follow a linear plot? Not quite. Is it filled with random and odd occurrences that rarely make a comeback? Absolutely. But amid the chaos, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it.

Jack, the night shift clerk, works at a remote gas station, used to the bizarre happenings that come with his fatal insomniac condition. From a cult in the woods to sudden appearances of garden gnomes and even an aggressive raccoon gang – he’s seen it all. However, things take a drastic turn when his coworker, Tony, reaches out to him in distress, revealing an accidental murder. Simultaneously, rumors of a Dark God lurking beneath the gas station start to haunt Jack, prompting him to take action.

This book was quite a rollercoaster ride. If you relish bizarre tales filled with humor, dark twists, and supernatural lore, this might be a perfect match for you! Jack’s therapist urges him to keep a journal about the strange occurrences around him, and through it, we witness the crazy events unfolding at the gas station. Packed with a medley of supernatural surprises, the story offers an ideal escape from reality, even if making sense of it all is a challenge. The plot may seem scattered, with numerous elements mentioned and forgotten, but eventually, around 70% into the book, the main storyline starts to take shape.

I’ve been closely following this story on Reddit, and at first, I hesitated to purchase the book since it seemed like a retelling of the free posts on Jack’s blog. However, I’m incredibly glad I decided to give it a chance. The experience is even more enriching if you’ve been following the gas station blog. It’s quite rare to come across horror interwoven with comedy in this particular way, making it simply amazing.
