Love isnt supposed to be painful.

This is the conclusion to the Trust Fund duet and one that I have been highly anticipating. Harpers life is a complete mess and she might even be going a little crazy. While reading, I felt everything she was feeling and wished that I could ease just a little of her pain. Parts of the book had me on the edge not knowing completely where the story was going. Skye Warren did an excellent job with this duet. It is a sexy and emotional read with a perfect ending.

Sometimes you need the darkness to shine.

Audiobook The Evolution of Man (The Trust Fund Duet #2) by Skye Warren

I can’t even right now.

To give you an idea of my mindset before I started this book:
– I had just finished devouring over 20 Skye Warren books during the month.
– I looked at my Kindle and this cover and thought, ‘this is it – the last Skye Warren book.’
– I wanted to start it, to devour it, but I was afraid that once I did that, there would be NO MORE books left to read.

But I caved. How could I resist Sutton, Christopher and Harper? I couldn’t.

The Evolution of Man is the second book (& the conclusion of) the Survival of the Richest duet and it was nothing like I expected.

I thought I knew what I was going to get with this book – I knew NOTHING.
The dynamic between Christopher, Sutton and Harper was explosive. My heart broke for Harper and the way she broke apart during this story. Dealing with the illness of her mother, the feelings for two men and the continuous heartbreak of the way Christopher failed her.

But I loved watching the shift. The symbolism of the library – the damage and destruction and what can be built once you tear down your walls. Skye Warren weaves a beautifully erotic tale that will leave you breathless in one scene and then feeling overwhelming emotion in the next.

I am blown away by the talent this author has. The way she can make you fall in and out of love with a character over the course of a scene. Beautifully created characters that are flawless and perfect all at the same time.

I am desperate for more from this author and this world.

I’d give this 3.5 out of 5. I’m actually a bit conflicted about this book. I liked the story and the characters, but honestly, I expected a bit more, especially for the price. It was a quick read, almost more of a novella. The ending was wrapped up pretty quickly after a pretty similar story line to Survival of the Richest. I really liked Trust Fund, but found the last 2 books pretty similar – a love triangle between Harper, Sutton and Christopher, without too much character development or anything really happening apart from Harper being confused about her feelings and her concern for her mum. I found the main characters’ stories went nowhere as the book dragged out with a bit of angst and emotion that we’d already been over and then suddenly, it was over. Sutton’s story, especially, seemed to just go nowhere. Literally. He was there and then he wasn’t and there was no mention or follow through of him at all.

I continued to like the characters and Skye’s style of writing. I couldn’t put the book down and I was drawn in. The intimate scenes were hot and continued the love triangle theme started Survival. It’s not normally my cup of tea, but they were pretty hot. The issues with the library continue and some of the characters from Skye’s other books make an appearance here, especially Gabriel and Avery (whose storyline was also left hanging and unresolved). My version of the book on my Kindle didn’t have chapters available to go to, nor the time left in chapter option either, so I’m not sure why this was left out.

While I liked the story overall, I feel like the author has taken advantage a bit of loyal readers who will buy the book because they want to know how the story ends as well as enjoying other books by them and I felt this book was bordering on being disappointing. Like I said, it was okay, I just expected a bit more, not a short version of more of the same. I ended up with more questions that answers.
