The Exiles
Evangeline got seduced by the son of her employer. She was a very young governess working in London of the early 19th century. She got discharged when she got pregnant and was sent to the Newgate Prison.
After spending a few good months in jail she came to learn that she is sentenced to the penal colony in Australia. She was uncertain but knows one thing for sure. It is that the child that she is carrying in her womb will be born during the long voyage to a distant place in Australia.
During the journey in the slave ship named Medea, she developed a good friendship with Hazel. She was a little older girl than her ex-pupils who were handed over a sentence of seven years for the case of stealing a silver spoon.
The book is good and it especially comes with a very exciting ending. But, the overall theme of this story is quite depressing. This is the right description of the unfairness and cruelty of that era. The characters are strong about which you would genuinely care about. You will have your heart in pieces for them.
