I would not say it was enjoyable. but the subject was something I had never quite heard of before. A cabal that literally caused even the pope to speak out against it. The violence and the code of honor that caused fathers and siblings and mothers and aunts to strike out against their own family members was harrowing. No freedom, no joy, just violence on a daily basis. This unforgettable tale will resonate with me for a long time. There would not have been a book such as this if it wasn’t for Lea and Concetta. RIP ladies. In death you stroked the conscious of a nation and beyond. Kudos to the author as you have written a gripping masterpiece.

After having carefully read this remarkable story words like shocking, incredible, come to mind. The fact that an endemic group of people could do so much to so many, throughout the world, and get away with it for so long, is uncanny. Mr. Perry makes it readable to say the least. The chronicle pulls you in from the very first page and transforms you to another mind-set. My personal take-away and the line Ill always remember is an ending thought. It relates to this story of course but the second half, of the sentence, tells us a lesson that we should remind ourselves of daily If the story of The Good Mothers tells us anything, it is that to define human capacity by the accident of gender or skin color, religion, or nationality, is folly.

Tells the story about my ancestral homeland vividly. The story hits home and scares me. I feel for the brave mothers in this story that risked all for their children. They lived with hope for a future despite legitimate threat. I want more. The author colors this world with vivid descriptions of the geography and setting. I would love one on Cosa Nostra next!

The Good Mothers is a fascinating reminder of how much society has to do to truly offer good safe futures for citizens. In this non-fiction read, one is both frightened and encouraged by the strength of individuals choosing right over wrong. Citing real names, places, and consequences, almost to the current moment , makes The Good Mothers a very real legal thriller.

Dislike – hard to come to a realization that humanity can be so awful. I dislike that I can be so naive
